They spelled my name wrong! Looks like another call to get that straightened out:fire:

Question

What are the advantages of a C&R?
What does it allow a person to do that they otherwise could not?
 
You can buy C&R eligible firearms (long guns and handguns) online/by phone/by mail and have them shipped straight to your house, no transfer fees. Purchase C&R eligible handguns out of your home state (e.g. you are on a trip and see a gun you have wanted, you can buy it right there). You get the dealer discount from a long list of places. Midway, Brownells, J&G sales, Huntingtons, etc...this is the main reason I wanted it. The amount of money I have available to spend on shooting will buy me more stuff than before! The amount of record keeping is minimal. You still buy and sell modern firearms the same way as you did before (dealer transfer).

In short, you can spend more money!:D
 
I had a spelling mistake on mine as well. A short email to BATF earned me a quick and extremely polite response. I had a new copy of my C&R within a week.

The benefit of a C&R is that you get to buy and have shipped directly to you firearms of a certain age or older without going through a traditional FFL. Also, some businesses (ie Midway) give dealer discounts to C&R licensees. That final bit alone can recoup your $30 investment with the first order.

I just sent an email, guess I'll have to wait until Monday to see what they say. I don't have any money to spend right now anyway, car repairs have soaked it all up...:banghead:

We lived in Goldsboro from Sept. '93 to Jan. '02. I wanted to move closer to my work in Clayton. I'm actually in Wilson's Mills, in between Smithfield and Clayton.
 
In Massachusetts, a gun has to be on the "approved for sale" list of the Attorney General.

I walked into a local gunshop the other day and they had a 1903 model (made around 1920) .32 caliber revolver for sale. I pulled out my license to carry, and was told I couldn't buy it with that license because the gun wasn't on the approved for sale list. Only someone with an FFL could buy it.

I purchased the pistol with my C&R. It still strikes me as strange that I could have bought a high power Semi Auto pistol, or an AR with my class A permit, but not this almost antique beat up old revolver.

I know that Massachusetts is the exception to the rule, and we have many funny rules, but I'm glad I have the C&R. There are a lot of collectable firearms out there at very reasonable prices. I could buy 15 Mosin's and SKS's for the same price as one Colt AR.
 
How long did it take? I sent mine in almost 2 months ago, they've charged my credit card, but I still haven't heard from them.
 
Took 15 days to get mine. Got it 11 days after they charged my debit card.

I've seen posts on surplusrifle that people who sent their app in Feb early march are still waiting. While those of us in the last month/month and a half have gotten our C&R's in about 2-3 weeks. What area of the country are you in?

The ATF has divided the U.S. into divisions. Each division has it's own licensing administrator. How quickly you get your license depends on the admin and/or how "busy" he or she is with that particular division and their volume of applicants. Some admins are slow while others are faster but have heavy work loads. Some are fast AND have manageable work loads...those are the ones that get them out quickly. They do have a couple in the licensing center that are just swamped with applications. Remember, they do have to do background checks. That takes time and is often done with assistance from other agencies (even more time consuming). In the meantime, the applications just keep piling up.

I've been thinking of applying for one for a while now. Can someone post a link to the best place to d.l. the forms? BTW, congrats and sorry at the same time :D
 
I'll be 4 weeks this monday from the BATF dinging my Bank account. I'm in Illinois. Anyone ave nay insight into "wait" in my neck of the woods? (Cook County, if that "helps". Bet it doesn't!)

And congrats on those of you who have made the grade, or "almost" in the case of those who need corrections!
 
Another good thing about a C&R: you get on the mailing list for the places you send a copy to, and get to see their dealer stuff & prices:)

There's nothing like having the fedex guy pull up while you're washing your car and handing you a small box with a .45 auto in it! Gun store? I don't need no stinking gun store! :D

I thought about renewing last night, but I don't have any $$ to be buying any guns! :mad:
