Well I finally went a decided on my first 1911. I put it on layaway for $700 and owe $438 left. It's a Kimber Custom Crimson Carry II, its beautiful and shoots awesome. It has the nicest trigger of any pistol I've ever shot. I plan on getting it in 2-3 weeks. Any experience on this gun or opinions? I'm pretty excited to pick this baby up!

Another question, what is the proper break in procedure with this gun? I've heard its somewhere between 300-500 rounds. What exactly should I do? What kind of anmo? And do I shoot say 50 rounds then clean and do another 50 or what do you guys suggest. Any advice is much appreciated.

Im so close to picking up either the ultra cdp or the super carry ultra. Ones more than the other and thats holding me back. Both have the short grip and my LGS has 10% off this month. I could of walked today with the CDP for a little over 1100 tax and all!

First you should clean and properly lube the gun.
I like to take a new 1911 and shoot a match with it to bring up any issues it has with sharp edges, feeding, extraction. Even better would be taking a 1000 round class with it. There is a well-known trainer who is offering a free class and your ammo cost if a 1911 can complete a 3 day class without a stoppage. The offer is directed at subcompact (< 4" bbl) 1911s, but he is challenging any 1911 to survive his class without stoppage
Another route might be to just shoot 500 rounds of hardball through it all in one session without cleaning and see if any issues arise.
The old standard for a carry gun was 200 rounds of the intended defensive loading without a bobble. No cleaning and any bobble meant that you started the 200 rounds over. (I'd put at least 200 rounds of hardball through it before attempting this to bring any obvious issues up before going with the premium stuff)

Congrats. I love my Custom II. You will enjoy yours too. Great guns. Mine didn't require a break-in period. Just shoot and enjoy.
Alright ill just bring 250 rounds of UMC FMJ and shoot that then keep it dirty and shoot another 250 a day or two later. I can get 250 round box of UMC for $95 at Walmart so that ought to work out well. I kinda figured it'd be more like how you're supposed to break in a custom rifle. Thank you.
There is another kimber I'm absolutely dying to get my hands on. The Kimber Solo CDP with Crimson Trace laser grips and low-pro night sights. Its a beautiful little carry piece and once the problems are ironed out and they become available ill be snatching up the first one I find!

Alright I just picked it up about 30 min ago. I have a buddy on the way to help me post pics (yes I'm computer illiterate). I have promised other members pics of my other recent buys (FN Five-seveN, Gen 4 Glock 21 FDE, and now the kimber) so ill just start a new thread posting the pics of all three pistol's foe everyone to see.

Yep, not allowed to boast about a new piece unless photos go along with the bragging! Otherwise it never happened. 
I've only got two complaints about this gun:
1) it has no checkering on the front strap, its kind of slick
2) the sights are completely black. I don't expect night sights on every gun i buy but to not even have white dots or outline is just plain ridiculous. Cmon kimber.
What magazines do you guys suggest? Should i buy a few more kimbers or is there a better 1911 mag?
I think I'm also going to eventually buy the kimber ultra covert with laser grip to replace my glock 36 for EDC.

Congratulations first off, I'm excited for you! A bit on Kimber sights: take it to a pistolsmith. Kimber puts them on for keeps and if your smith hasn't had the pleasure of Kimber sights yet-defer to another.
Second, I'd keep the Glock for EDC. 3" 1911 variants have the worst job in the business, having to be reliable without the necessary means. They require fresh springs constantly, they are finicky about ammo and they will never top a Glock for reliability in stock form.
Magazines for 1911s can be a craps shoot so buy one of any potential candidate before deciding. Any number of people will tell you certain brands are infallible but it simply doesn't hold true for every individual pistol or magazine.
One last thing on break-in, keep it reasonable. Don't shoot that 250 as fast as you can load. Give the barrel time to cool down as with any firearm and remember to spend some of that ammo trying to induce failures (limp wristing etc.) You'll take away a better picture of how forgiving your Kimber is or isn't when all is not perfect.
Here's to many years of enjoyment for you.

Skylerbone, thank you for all the great information! About the Glock I probably will still carry it in the long haul, its almost perfect IMO for carry and I've trusted it for 3 year's without fail. It's just a good excuse to get another kimber or any gun for that matter (I'm sure you know how girlfriends/wives are lol I'm running out of excuses) but i also ordered a Kimber Solo CDP LG today with estimated arrival of 2-4 months. I've heard the new solos are coming out good finally so i decided to take a shot on one. The new cdp looks like the crimson carry"s cute little 9mm sister, it also has CT laser grips. As long as my factory kimber mag works well ill just buy two or three more of the same. No reason to change mags if the factory ones work. As far as break in should i shoot 200 without cleaning or do 100, clean and oil, then another 100? I plan on bringing 200 rounds of winchester white box 230gr fmj tomorrow.

. That is what I would do. Take care to aim springs away from eyes, take your time with the slide stop insertion and keep all oil away from the breechface and feed ramp.
Because it is new, you might consider bringing some oil/CLP and after 100 rounds, with the slide locked to the rear, flip it upside down and add a drop or two to each rail and a drop on the barrel to lubricate the bushing.

Just got home from the range and after putting 200 rounds through it all I can say is wow! This gun is accurate. The first 3 mags I put through were at 8 yards and I was shooting pretty fast nit using the sights, just the laser to do some fast acquisition shooting. All 24 rounds went right where I aimed with a group size about 4". I've never had a pistol shoot this well right out of the box and couldn't be happier. I wish I didn't shoot that dirty blazer brass through it but its all I had at home and couldn't fins any FMJ 45 at 3 different stores I went to today which I thought was weird because they had all three other "normal" ammo (380, 9, 40).

Hey! Another non-exploding functional Kimber, the Internet clan will be shocked! Question is, are you tempted to go 500 rounds before cleaning... Sounds like it's a keeper, good looks, accuracy, light trigger, dependability and all.
Glad to hear that first hurdle is behind you. It really does make my day when someone takes the leap and lands on their feet. Start saving that brass, you never know...I load .45 ACP for about .14/round. That spells more shooting and more hardware to shoot them with.

So what do you accuse them of before you shoot them and do you you wait for their denial of the charges?
