For Christmas I bought myself a new CZ 452 American with a Mannlicher Stock in 17 HRM. I finally put a Leupold VX-1 2-7x33 on it and went out to shoot it, hoping upon hope that it would shoot as good as it looked....well, I have no pics of the gun, but suffice it to say that it does....I shot four five-shot groups, three at fifty yards, and one at one hundred. The first group was just two holes....I tried too hard on the second....the third came in pretty tights as well....and at one hundred I could cover 'em up with a quarter...I think I can do better, but I'm tickled so far....P.S. the other shots are just sight in shots....

I shoot my roommate's HMR on a weekly basis. It's so accurate it's almost boring, almost. I have no problems shooting clays on a hill 200 yds away, then shooting the remnants of that broken clay, then shooting the smaller pieces, and so on until there's nothing left to see. Bic lighters at 200yds are fun, as is shooting the primer on a live shotgunshell at 100yds. I have watched my roommate shoot the stem out of a wine glass at 100 yds! The thing is great as long as it's not raining or windy out.

first thing is, make sure it is fully free floated. put a dollar bill under the bbl, and run it up and down, between the bbl and the stock. After you heat it up with several shots, repeat the above step, to see if sticking points are showing up, or moving. bring a pencil to mark the bbl or stock. then when you get home, sand out the sticky spots. also once you get it free floated, and shoot some more, you should find your groups much tighter, without that walking spread. then, take a piece of cloth such as cleaning patches, or felt or cotton swab, or a bit of rubber gasket, or cabinet closing round pad, anything really. stick it right up front, right under the bbl, between the bbl and the very end of the stock. this will dampen the harmonics of the bbl, and may cut your group sizes in half again. good shooting.
one more thing, give it a thorough, but not much brass brushing, cleaning.
lots of soaked patches. the ofoam cleaners will really hep you out here.

Nice shooting.
I have a .17HMR Marlin 917V and I blew the head off a Crow with it from 175 yards or there abouts. I'm pleased with mine.:D
