Just when I swore I would go easy on my gun purchasing for a while I walk into my local shop today and walk out with a Colt Python!
The price was $595 which I thought was a good deal. However it never hurts to ask for a lower price and so I walked out with it for $525, plus tax of course.
No box or paperwork but it did come with a Saftey Speed holster. The trigger and hammer have been jeweled and there is some minor holster wear but overall it's in very good shape. There was some surface rust as well, obviously this gun had been stored in the leather holster a bit too long. However I was able to clean off the surface rust with some gun oil and there doesn't appear to be any pitting. I spent an hour cleaning the gun and oiling it down, it was pretty dirty when I brought it home, now it shines.
The double action trigger pull is buttery smooth and the single action pull weight measured out to just slightly over two pounds. Serial number is E511* which according to my limited research indicates that it was made in 1970.
Based on it's condition I would say that this gun is definitely better suited to be a shooter rather than a collectible and certainly plan to use it as such.
Anyway here are some pics....
