I have been wanting one for quite a while and finaly broke down and picked up a M44 at the last gun show. I wanted a M38 but there were none to be found. Actually I'm glad now I couldn't find the 38...the bayonete is really growing on me.
Anyway, I finished the last coat of BLO today and got everything put back together. I touched up the blue, fitted an old recoil pad from a Ruger 77 and headed to the range. I was please with how the 60 year old rifle shot. Accurate with lots of power..and lots of bruising potential. I'm looking forward to getting a "No Gunsmith" mount and handgun scope to complete the scout concept that I had in mind for this rifle.
BTW, I know Linseed Oil isn't the best finish availible, but I have always liked the look. I have always used Tung Oil for my refinished stocks and wanted something different.
It makes a good mate for my AK, guess I'll call them Boris and Natasha NOw I just need a Druganov or RomakIII and my comblock colection will be complete.
