Is it just me or is it getting harder and harder to find 7mm WSM factory ammo? I can't find the Winchester ballistic silvertips anywhere in town. The only thing I can find is the Federal ballistic tip stuff and it is scarce and expensive. I had heard that the 7mm WSM was going to be dropped and I was wondering if anyone else had heard the same rumor. Thanks in advance guys.

I'm pretty sure that the only WSM's that will be readily available in the next few years will be the .270 and .300. From what I have heard the .300 is the most bought WSM at a fairly large local sporting goods store.

That's what I've been hearing around here too. I'm thinking seriously about trading my 7mm WSM in on a .280. I don't reload and being able to find ammo is a must for me. I figured the 7 mm WSM would catch on. That's what I get for jumping on the short mag band wagon I guess.

Traded my 7mm WSM Browning A Bolt Hunter II for a Browning A Bolt Stainless Stalker in 308. Even trade with a buddy of mine who runs a gun shop here in town. The 308 has had some trigger work and shoots great. I think I came out ahead. The gun shoots clover leafs at 100 yards all day. I don't miss the 7 WSM yet, and hope I never do.

good trade

I think you came out good, and I don't think you will be alone. There has been a pretty big explosion of new cartridges on the market the last few years between the short mags, super short mags, .338 Federal, .375 Ruger...natural selection is going to start taking over, and in a few years, you will still be able to find .308 and .30-06 in every sporting goods store in the world.

It's kind of like looking at all the used V-10 Dodge Ram's that are for sale with gas prices at close to $3.50.

If you reloaded you could neck down 300WSM or even 325WSM and then trim the brass if you couldn't find 7mmWSM cases.

7mm rounds are here to stay. Maybe the whole WSM is a phase. Maybe there is some merit with the advantages of the short magnum. Speed of the bolt-probably a good thing. Inherently more Accuracate-I don't really think so.

If you like your rifle you should reload. Also, those ballistic silvertips are moly coated. If you have shot a lot of these, and you switch to a "normal" non-coated bullet without some serious cleaning of your barrel your rifle will probably not get good accuracy. Trust me on that one. Moly coat or don't, can't have both.
