I have a Remington 870 but unlike my other 870's ( I have a few ) this one does not say Wingmaster on the side it only says Remington and the seral number. As it has no barrel so cant get date info. I have never seen on one before like this one that only says Remington on the side. I was wondering how to find the year it was made . It also has a grove in the trigger guard that I have never seen before and it was not done after market. The seral number starts with a number no letter so it must be from 1950 -1968 but is there a way to find the real year it was made ?

pictures would help a lot. my 1950 Remington 12ga 870 pump has wingmaster on the left side and no groove on-in the trigger guard.

it could be the newer 870 i have one it says remington 870 and thats all besides the serial number . you can find the date by the serial number

Using the barrel date code is very unreliable anyway. Lots of barrels are swapped on those guns. Call Remington with the SN.

No need to guess. Just call Remington 1-800-243-9700. Its free and easy. They have a historians on staff who will look up the exact info about your shotgun over the phone. You will need to give them the full serial number from the receiver.

No barrel and a "marked" trigger guard...........

makes me wonder if it has a "release trigger" and somebody figured it dangerous and kept it stored without bbl.
