I am buying a Desert Eagle .50AE soon, and I am trying to decide between two finishes: 1) Hard Chrome and 2) Bright Nickel.

I think the chrome would look better, but the nickel would be more durable and easier to keep clean/nice looking, am I right? I dont want my ankle holster scratching up that chrome, ha. Anyway if anyone knows where I can find some hi-res pictures to compare the two I would appreciate it.

Oh and vote in my poll, YOU CAN CHOOSE MORE THAN ONE OPTION!!

Chrome platiing is actually nickel. So I don't understand your poll.

He means the satin matte finish versus the hi-polish bright nickel.

I choose Bright nickel. Be honest, it's not gonna see a lot of holster duty.

It's a pimp gun. Pimp it out. The only people that would see it used in anger are zombies anyway.

hahahhahaha the Why the hell are you buying a Desert Eagle??? have the leads. well thats my question too. but to each their own. id get the nickel far less maint than a chrome one. i saw a chrome one that had a lot of rounds through it where the chrome started to look purple. this is common with chrome. Take a look at hot rods. any hot rod with chrome headers. They chrome usually will turn purple. So go nickel.

Chrome plating is a three step process which involves a very good cleaning. which is the most important then it is plated in copper, nickel and chromium.

Not the same though

tiger stripes overlaying an engraved Betty Boop and the Three Stoges playing cards; Zippy on the other side.

Matte hard chrome. It's durable, and doesn't look stupid like nickle plating does. If you don't have reloading supplies, get them, you're going to need them to afford shooting that thing, and if you don't have a few dependable normal service pistols already, buy those first. If you already have a few, a desert eagle is a nice, accurate, powerful handgun that has some good uses.

As nice as shiny nickel looks, it can be a hassle if you care about smudges. If you don't care, go with the nickel. If you plan on handling it a fair amount, stick with chrome.

Hard chrome is head and shoulders more durable than just about any other finish, it actually bonds with the metal, it's not a plating like nickel.

I had several rifles and pistols hard chromed in the late 80's and they look new as the day I had them done after much abuse in the field.

If my computer wasn't melted down and getting rebuilt, I'd post a pic or two to show you.

If the DE fits your hand - go for it, but never shoot cast or swaged lead, it will bugger up the gas system.

If a man wants a pistol large enough to need wheels, it's not my business to question it. I have a Casull, others have S&W X frames, you have a DE - it's all good.

I know it is a good thing to shoot one of those cannons. I rent one of those at a marginal price on a blue moon and hold a half dollar tight group at 15 yards one handed. They are accurate. Recoil is not that bad but why would you want to buy one when you can rent?

Sure it has no practicality. But it's fun to shoot and is a great conversation starter so I can't rip anyone for buying a Desert Eagle. Agent Smith. Bullet Tooth Tony. John Matrix. Some great cinematic characters have carried that piece. If an older poster mentioned that he wants a single action revolver bc he grew up watching his Western heroes shooting them, then everybody deems it kosher. But some of us are a little younger and identify with a different set of guns. Nothing wrong with either scenario. A single action revolver is even less practical than a DE .50 anyway but that's never brought up in those discussions. Not all guns are bought with the intention of being a CCW piece.

If you're buying a Desert Eagle you might as well go all the way with the gold and tiger stripes. ;)

I voted for chrome, but if you're going to buy a Desert Eagle, you might as well go all the way with the Titanium Carbon Nitride finish. That way, when you meet a guy at the range with a pansy chrome or nickel finished DE, you know you got one better than his ;)

Of course, it ain't my money. Between the two choices, I picked chrome, mostly because I think the nickel would be too smudgy.

EEEK! A Desert Eagle!

Pick a camo that will stand out well against a desk top, so when it is holding that big stack of papers down it will still impress your friends:p

One of the great things about America is the Free Market system (or at least the closest thing on earth) you pay your money you make your choice. But from a personal opinion "Why do you want one?"
