About a month of piece at a time changes to make my 9mm Springfield Armory Compact 1911 what I wanted in an EDC. 4" barrel & Officers frame. 40 years of shooting a 1911 in various competitions make it as familiar as an old pair of shoes.
After correcting a weak main (hammer) spring, the pistol shot well and reliably. I then installed a set of Trijicon Tritium night sights & drifted them to shoot to point of aim.
Then went to Optics Planet & purchased three Wilson Rogers magazines. One flush mount 8 round, one 9 rd and one 10 rd. 10rd is the spare carried in a small case, 9 rd is EDC and the 8 rd Flush base is for when I have to minimize grip length. (The 8rd OEM SA mags do not drop free. They were reliable shooting however)
Next, I fitted & exchanged the ambidextrous safety for a single sided Ed Brown carry safety. I did not want the right side safety due to the possibility of it being brushed to the off position while being carried. (that happened to me with a Browning Hi Power Mk III a few years ago)
Finally, today, I installed a set of Crimson Trace laser sights. The Red ones. (green ones are more expensive, have short battery life and still are not visible in daylight unless up close.)
Its all done now. Shoots to point of aim out to 50 yards, 4 lb clean crisp trigger, it functions with total reliability, fits me and clangs the 50 yard steel at my club.

Very nicely done and just the way you want it! Doesn't get any better than that!
