An online buddy of mine wanted a new Hawken and so I put one together for him, almost a clone of mine except he wanted a real dark stain and so we figured everything out and I went to work.

Rifle is built on a CVA Hawken stock, Deer Creek 32" 1:66 twist .58cal barrel, relocated barrel tenon so I could use the factory wedge key slot in the stock, the lock I completely polished as well as the trigger sear. Blued the barrel and also fit the tang to the stock, followed up with completely bedding the tang, trigger plate and a small section of the forward stock to help eliminate side to side movement under recoil.

The wrist of the stock got a little trimming and the thumb hook as I call it, I cut out and shaped.

Had to order a new tall blade front sight after I bought one that was to short, the rifle shot 6" high at 25 yards, but the main thing, go shoot it! The rifle shot really well but I'll really get her working once that new sight comes in.

90gr Schuetzen with a .562" round ball didn't shoot that great with this powder but at least it reacts the same way my other twin of this rifle does! Huge comfort once I switched to a much tighter .575" ball with a .015" patch. Only 2 shots as I am out of the .575's now.

50 yards

You did good! I have not seen the dark finish like that before. It looks really nice.

I still have my old TC Hawken. It doesn't get shot much anymore. Mostly when the kiddies want to see it. I still think it is an elegant firearm.
