Greeting all.

A recent thread asked the question of which primers are the "hardest", and that brings up this question. How do Fiocchi primers compair to others in terms of: hardness, heat of ignition etc.?

I just picked up a 1K case of Fiocchi 616 (209 primers, $15.99) and was curious what you all thought.

Thanks,
D

I haven't tried the Fiocchi primers purchased by themselves, but based on the look of the primer indentations on the Fiocchi .45 ACP ammo I've fired I would say that it is one of the harder primers. Probably close to CCI in hardness. Of course this could vary based on primer type.

If you were able to purchase 209 equivalent primers for $15.99 a thousand, you should buy all you can afford. I was told by my local retailer that a pretty hefty price increase is expected shortly for primers, brass and bullets, due to the constantly changing metals market.

In my experience, primer hardness hasn't been an issue with shotgun primers like it has for metallic primers. I've got some guns with action jobs that will only reliably ignite Federal small pistol primers and know other competition shooters who can only shoot Federals in their guns without getting misfires. These are highly tuned guns, by the way.

Hope this helps.

Fred
