Price sure is good. Took a chance when I saw a great deal on Wolf SRM and SPP and liked them very much. Used the Wolf SRM interchangeably with CCI #41 and saw 0 difference. Same with the Wolf SPP vs CCI #500. Again, could tell 0 difference in performance. So getting ready to restock those sizes & the Wolf have dried up. See the Fiocchi locally for $35/1500 which is about 1/2 ¢ each less vs CCI. Yeah...cheapskate, but even 1/2¢ here & there lowers overall cost per round.....
Same place has Armscor 230gr FMJ (not plated) .45 bullets for $88/1k & I can't find anything - even coated cast - anywhere close to that, esp with no shipping (but sales tax). Have Wolf 55gr FMJ BT, cannelure, for $60/k. Don't want to get stuck with several k of them if they're bad, but at these prices hard to pass up. 6¢ .223 projectiles puts me at 13.4¢/round with WC844 - that's 9mm territory!
So, anyone have experience with these Fiocchi primers that seem to be cheapest available now that the Wolf are gone?
And, for general range ammo (not benchrest) is a primer a primer? Does switching brands ever make any difference in load performance with all else equal?
Any reason not to use the Armscor or Wolf projectiles?
Edit: By good I mean no major issues and will make perfectly acceptable range ammo at least as good as bulk FMJ like American Eagle, WWB, etc. I don't expect HAP or VMax accy & construction consistency from Armscor & Wolf like I would Hornady.
Edit 2 - BTW, if anyone knows where the WC844 is lemme know please. Checked the usual suspects & none. A few emails out & nobody seems to know when they will have more. About 18lbs left & H335 is back to plentiful so no big deal, but wouldn't mind getting another large amount of WC844 when I come across it. The 48lb from same lot I've been working through has been excellent. POI, group size, & chrony verify I'm getting exact same results out of this lot as cannister H335. Hoping to duplicate that luck in the future
