Fiocchi to build primer manufacturing facility in Arkansas

In 2021 I drove up Interstate 49 to tour the Pea Ridge Battlefield. I was amazed at all the new businesses going from Fayetteville through Springdale. Lots of semi's hauling heavy stuff. Beatiful state Arkansas, and I visited the State Fair in Little Rock. Loved it. So, Wooo Pig Sooie Arkansas!
I live about 10 miles from that battlefield. And about 10 miles from WalMart HQ. NW Arkansas is the crown jewel of the state. Low crime, good schools, rapid expansion in pretty much every direction, large trucking firms, and the beauty of the Ozark Mts to top it off. I'd have put the factory closer to this area.

I'm fine with NOT spoiling the natural beauty of that area.

Another primer factory will be good for the shooting community as well as for the city Little Rock. I would have preferred CCI but we'll take Fiocchi!

We saw that price for regular primers. They were even going for over $300/1000 at one point. I know because besides seeing others sell for that, I was offered it for mine, but they've come down and there is inventory on-hand for the first time in about two years. So I think Castle Arms price for those Fiocchi lead-free primers reflects the going-rate six-months or a year ago. I think we could see the lead-free selling for less than $100/1000 in the next few months and if this Arkansas plant comes online, there is a good possibility they will sell for the same as regular primers which I predict will settle around 5 cents each sometime next year.

the lead scare in the 60's was invented to make excuses for blacks scoring low in tests after the forced them into white schools. the fairy tale stated that ONLY black kids at paint chips off window sills when paint had lead in it. no other kids of any race ate those paint chips. I was a kid in NYC and remember it like it was yesterday. I am not saying lead is good for you but I was in construction over 45 years never saw a plumber who soldered a million joints die from lead poisoning

Federal (Vista Outdoors) has indicated that they have no plans to make the Catalyst primers available to reloaders.

Bunch'a meanies. Obviously they make more money selling ammunition than primers, so as the anti-lead trend spreads, more and more shooters will have to buy factory ammo instead of reloading.

DDNP has a higher brisance than B lead-styphnate, the initiator used in most common primers. This higher brisance creates quite a bit more pressure in the primer pocket. Some people have noted peening of the breech face around the firing pin due to this higher pressure. One solution is to enlarge the flash hole to relieve the pressure.

First generation Winclean .45 ACP had enlarged flash holes to vent the burn. This led to much discussion until Winchester said the cases were ok to reload with styphnate primers.
NOW we get .45s with small primers. Stuff is probably more expensive, too so that helps them both ways.

If a manufacturer wants lead free primers to sell, the first rule should be to never, ever call them “green.” :barf:
I like being green, and recycle, makes me “feel” good. Don’t know if I’m actually doing any good. But, shooting sport going green, count me in… as long as it goes bang!

that’s funny you say that about lead. I when to elementary school (early 80’s) in BridgePort CT, right across from the Old Remington Ammo plant. We played with all kidda dangerous stuff and we turned out alright … I think… lol

lead free primers means they will cost 2-3 times more then the overpriced standard primers. when the factory opens there will be 350K guys from 65-80 in line buying all they got
my uncle was a plumber for 50 years starting in the 30's when they drilled holes with a brace and bit drill. used lead that long. as a kid at 13 me and my brother helped him. I remember a big lead pot with melted lead for all the cast iron joints. he lived to 89.
These guys die eventually. I went to the estate sale of one of the retired ammo hoarders buying all the 22lr ammo from Walmart back around 2016. They guy had at least 80 thousand rounds of 22lr ammo.
I didn't buy any as I just off loaded all my 6 to 22 year old 22lr ammo during the height of the plandemic.
Supposedly one of the reasons primers got expensive is some of the chemicals got expensive and hard to find, back ordered ect and everyone in the US that makes and sells primers more or less uses the same chemistry primer. Lead free primers use different chemicals, the hardest thing to do with lead free is grind up aluminum into powder so fine its on the verge of spontaneous combustion on contact with air. Too fine it catches on fire on contact with air, too course and the primers don't work and charcoal can't be used as a stabilizer/buffer like with normal pyrotechnics powdered aluminum.
But Russia seems to have figured it out 20+ years ago.

we all die eventually. lead free gas shot bullets solder now primers is all communist bull crap designed to drive up prices and price some people out of the market

After removing lead from gasoline there really isn't much reason to remove lead from all primers aside to keep indoor ranges from turning into lead contamination hot spots.
Plus lead free primers plus ballpowder in a large capacity case with less than half fill volume aren't always a good combination.
