Maybe you could get one of those cartoon guns where the stick pops out of the barrel, the flag unravels and the word "BANG!" is displayed. 
On the plus side only 4 out of ~225 respondents have thought it is a god idea.

So, I'm guessing that the sort of person who would fire blanks at an intruder in his house is the same one who stuck the phony "Protected by ABC Burglar Alarm" stickers on his windows and doors that the bad guys broke through or jimmied open to get in.

In Mattapan Boston yrs ago a home owner had a break in and went to the top of the stairs with an empty gun and called down "whoes there"he died instant later,luckly the perp went out the door.other wise the rest of family would dead.I pulled a gun on a 6ft 250 lb and he went for me I laced him a cross the head and cut him from eye to lip.he left.that was in Boston.what gets me is so many shoot and wound so that the perp can go to someone else and harm them.I would feel guilty that I let them go.I want them finished.

The premise of this thread goes against every rational notion for using a firearm in self-defense.
If you aren't willing to pull the trigger on a gun loaded with real ammunition you have no business using a gun for defense.
