(TX) Home invasions on the rise

Seems to me that when something evil happens nowadays, meth is usually in the mix in one way or another. Can't prove it, just an observation.

I agree that most occurances of this nature.....

are drug related. If someone wants concrete proof, go to www.star-telegram.com or www.dallasmorningnews.com and look what the papers write. You mosey into my yard at night here in Texas and you most likely WILL BE SHOT. If you mosey into my camp, out in the boonies, at night, strike the "most likely" from the above statement......chris3

would broaden the characterization to money related, not necessarily drug related. These guys are after anything of value, whether a small business owner's cash, family jewelry seen worn in social gathering, etc.

Burgulars steal things to make money? Who would have guessed? Shocking!

Here along the border, I am sure that the drug trade is to blame for most home invasions.

At least it wasn't an assault rifle! First time I have seen a reporter reporting correctly.

Ha! I didn't catch that. As this is a local paper to which I subscribe, I have emailed reporters numerous times when they report on "SKS assault rifles," a common arm of criminals. I explain that the term was popularized by the gun grabbers and how offensive it is to knowledgeable gun owners to use that label. Perhaps the term "assault rifle" is now forbidden. You too can make a difference. Speak up.

Incidentally, describing the AK-47 as an automatic rifle may well be true. Auto AKs are readily available here. I've sometimes thought . . . nah.

A very good observation too. Along the Southern Border the drugs may be mostly heroin and cocaine (and others) causing much misery, but from my point of view meth is the #1 problem countrywide drug-wise. And it is a serious problem. Several states have made the sale of meth a "violent crime". It is.
Sure there are some of these "home invasions" that occur to legitimately wealthy, or damn unlucky, people. I think "many" of them are drug related though, and many of those are connected to meth.
Most of us are more prone to being the victims of a burgulary I would imagine.

Yeah the texas/mexican border is pretty much out of control with gangs drugs and etc. I thought it was pretty funny when I watched the news tonight that arizona and california are getting national gaurd on their borders and yet are borders are the worse of the 3 due to shear length of them and Ive heard no news of any going to ours. Is the national gaurd scared to come protect or borders?:scrutiny:

My apartment (upscale) has a steel front door. Anyone know what the ballistics are for shooting through those, then? Or is it just better to hold back in a secure position covering it, the steel being more likely to hold up to bodily abuse, and only shoot them if they manage to bust through?

Unless it is something unusual, i.e. an industrial type steel door it has only a very thin steel "skin". A 12 ga with 00 buck should easily penetrate it, as will a well placed foot. Actually, the jamb will more than likely fail before the door. With that said, I won't comment on whether you should shoot through it or not, just that you most likely can. Remember, 00 buck is pretty much equivalant to shooting 9 9mm rounds simultaneously except they have a little more velocity than the 9mm. Upscale only means that you paid a lot for it. It has very little to do with the quality of the materials used to build it. They may be better, but they probably aren't.
