FIRE MISSION - teachers right to carry at school

I suspect this will continue to build in favor over the next few days, or until NPR decides it didn't go the way they wanted, and they take it down.

I wish the emotional people would just stop and think for a minute and realize that if you can't trust a teacher with a gun in school, then they probably have no business being a teacher.

My wife, who is a teacher, is all for allowing it. She doesn't feel she could handle a gun when the time comes, but feels it should at least be an option.

I fully support teachers being allowed to carry , should be a regional decision though. You are going to have a lot of teachers against it though.

Trained security will be a easier to get wide approval for.

Yeah, the Illinois Federation of Teachers Union made a statement a few days ago saying they felt the idea was absurd. I would agree that "requiring" teachers to carry is absurd, but the option to carry is completely different.

Yes, it should be an option, and those who "sign up" for that option need to be ready and trained to "step up" should armed intervention be called for. Most of us arm for self-defense, and have limited mindset and training to take a handgun and head in the direction of a madman carrying an AR/AK and firing away.

Still, I'd bet in any school of any size, you could find five adult staff members that would be willing to sign up for a position on the "Armed Instant Response Team."

I'm a teacher and I have a CCW. I would welcome the opportunity to acquire more training and to be a person on my campus who could possibly help to prevent such senseless tragedy as what recently occurred.
