ON my way home tonight I heard an interview with a high school teacher in the Pac NW that has brought a case against the school district to allow her to carry her Glock 19 to school. She was articulate and avoided many of the classic "traps". You can listen to the interview here.

NPR is an awesome news outlet when it presents the stories for what they are.

Its painfully obvious when the one producing that piece has preconceived notions and biases.

Even with the subtle baiting from the NPR interviewer, i.e. (would you be able to pull and fire a gun on a "young" person in front of the students in your class), she did good.

This will be a landmark case in Oregon, but unfortunately with the judges we have her (read Kali liberal transplants) I don't think she has a chance of prevailing. Sad. :(

I really hope that things go well for prof. Katz. She seems to have her argument wired tight. I wish that this story had gathered more attention. Infact I think i am going to E-mail Lars Larson, a local talk radio host and fellow CHL holder. Perhaps he can drum up some support for her as well. I hope this case sets a good precident for teachers in Oregon and those of us that are student CHL holders as well.

I listened and agree that it was a bit biased questions about if a person walked into the classroom brandishing a weapon that this educator would actually respond in kind and put down the threat. The educator nterviewed should not have compared this to Iraq. It has nothigng to do with IRaq and what is happening there. It has to do with having educators
being armed to defend their classroom population from the
tragic things that happened at COlumbine, Virginia Tech and other places
all too often in recent years. THe students are like sheep but the teachers have to take on the role of sheep dogs to ward off the insane coyotes

My daughter is an ENglish teacher in the Spokane WA Inner city and friends I have who are in the kinder and gentler outlying Valley areas tell me
they have a lot of respect for her to take that position in that school. About two years ago a kid came to school with a loaded 9mm.... School went to lock down and my daughter ran out with her class. She didnt have a plan if the SHTF - THe kid commiteted suicide by cop.

I've tried to offer a xmas present of her and her husband to take basic defensive firearm classes just so they know what an attacker has as a threat to their person but they think it will never happpen in their home or camping or there is always another alternative....

sigh I'll get off the podium at this point
