Hey guys, I used Re-loader's Reference for about 7 years and it was absolutely awesome.. Pictured Firearms inventory and round counter, loaded and spent Ammo inventory, Linked Ammo reload data to each gun.. Most of the popular reloading manuals installed with the ability to add your own pet loads, Targets, box labels, Trajectory and Muzzle energy calculators, Specs for cast bullets, Cartridge dimensions etc.. you name it it was in there..

That computer died recently and the program was never developed to run on anything past XP/Vista.. I'm not sure but I think the author has now passed, sadly..

So I'm looking ahead and wondering what I can get to replace it. I have all my data just can't open the main program anymore..

There were things I never used in the program but they were there for load development/experimentation.

Now, I'm just thinking of a light version of the program maybe in MS access? Something without the built in load manuals, and target generator. Just a Database to keep everything organized. If it is built into MS Access then so long as you have the file, even if the computer crashes you just reload access and then re-load the file and your still in business..

What do you guy's think? Does anyone already know of something that has already been done and they are using?

The sourceforge site mentions that a Web version is available. Maybe that would work for you.

2011 Redrider,

Following that link didn't help but it did give me an Idea and I upgraded my access and eureka! Hot Damm! Everything is back.. Now I just have to update and disposition changes in the inventories from the last 7 months or so... Something to do my next rainy day..

Something else to do.

Buy a cheap external hard drive and do a full back-up once a week!!!

To anyone else interested in this here are some instructions to try to see if you can get it to run for you.. It is totally awesome everything that is inside..

Guy's my copy of Reloader's reference started way back in 2007 and I had to add patches to expand the program and enable updates etc..

Requirements for the program are MS Access.. A full copy. Starting about Windows 8 and Office 2013 even if it came installed on your new pc or not you had to create a Microsoft account in the cloud and then it would update and would let you have a fully functional Access.. I think that was my root cause problem in migrating it forward to my newer laptops. I hadn't created the Microsoft account. Didn't want to..

So Try it out for yourselves and I will post some links that may or may not help you.. to start go here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/reloadersrfrnce/files/Reloaders_ Reference/

And down load 9.3x74r - Final and do the install.

If it will won't run you may have to do this to give yourself permissions to open it..
Quote from Wiljen
"I have recieved some messages from users having trouble running this package on Vista. Vista's default security settings will not allow users to change
files in the \program files path. This is what creates the problems.

1. be patient with the install, it is slow, but will complete even on vista.
2. follow the instructions below to change the permissions on the Reloaders Reference folder
to allow user writes to the files.

1.) Open c:\program files and right click the Reloaders Reference folder.
Note: on x64 systems this will be the Program Files (x86) folder.
2.) Choose properties from the drop down menu.
3.) On the properties tab, choose security.
4.) On the security tab, click the advanced button at the bottom of the tab.
5.) In the advanced tab, click users in the list, then edit.
6.) In the permissions dialog, click the Allow box on the top line (Full Control) then click ok.
7.) When it returns to the Advanced tab, check the replace all existing box at the bottom of the tab and click ok.
8.) Click ok again to return to the security screen.
9.) Click users in the top window and look at the permissions in the bottom portion, full control should now be checked.
10.) Click ok to close the security dialog.

RR should now run without the read-only or linking problems.

Or perhaps you may need to run it in Compatibility mode for XP if so follow this link and give this a try.

Once open and a file created to store your saved copy into, Go ahead and if necessary install the other manuals one by one. This step may not be needed here in the final version but it's what I had to do for the patches. This is all the firearms owners manuals and Targets compiled.

On mine there is a little tab in the upper left hand corner once the program is open called custom tabs.. Thats the Gold mine..

I hope this helps because that's about all I know about how to do the install.

Oh yea all user entered data is stored in the CoreData.mdb file so simply copying it to another location would in essence create a backup.
