Use of firearms playing a pivotal role in my new novel

Fellow HighRoaders --

I wanted to make a quick announcement that my novel, Cold Shadows, is now available through Amazon in print and Kindle with national bookstore distribution later this fall. Like most thriller/suspense novels, firearms feature in a prominent way in the storyline, something which I wanted to keep as realistic as possible. From my own experience and the lessons learned in the THR forum (more of the latter than former), the following firearms are used in the story:

Sig Sauer 9mm
PGM Mini-Hecate .338 Lapua
AR-15 carbines (not model specific)
Kimber .45ACP
And the really big weapon...Tomahawk TASM (okay, okay, not really a firearm, but it is an awesome weapon :) )

Thanks to everyone for my continuing education in THR, and for those who want to check out the book, it can be accessed here: http://www.amazon.com/Cold-Shadows-...81788014&sr=8-1&keywords=cold+shadows+critser

Happy shooting (and happy reading)!
Cheers,
Jeff

Nice to see folks publishing their own books. Put one out for my Grandfather and couldn't be prouder.

Good luck with the sales.

Thanks, guys, for the feedback and hope you enjoy the story! Next in the series will have even more guns, so stay tuned. :)

Good for you, friend. I have started a number of books but never finished any so I admire people who stick with it and get it done. Lost my favorite fiction suspense writer this year; Vince Flynn. Is your work similar to his and to Brad Thor's by chance?

BTW, my wife use to work for NavAir in Arlington, VA. She processed the kits of many flight officers and pilots over her years with the Navy.

Best of luck to you and I sincerely hope you have a successful writing career. And I buy your book.

Jeff - downloading on my iPad Kindle app to read on the flight home. Congrats!

My book is a cross between Vince Flynn and Tom Clancy, both of whom passed away this year. If you like that subject matter, then you should like my book, too. Thanks and happy reading!

9mm+, in your thread title would you consider saying that
'firearm use plays a pivotal role...' ?

Distinguishing between the gun (an inanimate object) and the criminal (the user of the object) is an important distinction to maintain when it comes to fighting the anti's attempts to demonize firearms.

9mm+, sorry for being picky. :)

True and good catch. Wasn't on my game since this is not an 'anti' crowd. Corrected the title of the thread and body of the first post. Thanks!

Aw, man! You had me hooked in the description...right up until I read the author's description where it said "naval aviator".

Then it all went down hill from there.

:D

Serioiusly, I've added it to my Wishlist on Amazon.

I prefer paper books as a rule, and I've often wondered...which sales provides a higher profit to the author, paper or electronic books?

Spoken like a true blackshoe! Man, I miss those days of good natured community rivalry! Bear in mind, though, that the USS Mississippi (SSN 782) plays an important part in the book, but that's all I'll say about it without spoiling the plot. :)

Hope you enjoy the book, Chief! As for profit, the publisher makes the most and the royalties to the author are roughly the same for ebook as they are for print. It's amazing how expensive the printing process can be.

Thanks! I like to support the authors as much as possible, which is why I asked. I don't have anything like a Nook or Kindle (yet...I've a feeling one is coming for Christmas) and have quite an affinity for the comforting feel of a paper book in my hands.

But the world is a-changin', and if it happens that I get an e-reader of some kind, I'd prefer to support the authors the best I can.

Just downloaded it.

I'm about 1/3 into it. I'm liking it so far.
Glad to hear that! The tone turns darker from the half-way point to the end. If you have any questions about the book, feel free to PM me (to keep any plot spoilers away from the thread).

Just received my copy today in the mail. I didn't order it until earlier this week. Will start reading it today. I'll let you know how I liked it after I finish it.

Good story. I liked it. I won't give out any spoilers, though.
Great to hear, thanks! :) I'll be working on the second book in this series over the holidays. More guns for sure in book #2.

I'm an avid reader, but not on Kindles. Will your book be available in the epub format on another site?

Are you aware of the ebook site MobileRead? If not check them out at:

http://www.mobileread.com/

They have a section for self promotion by authors.

Great timing, Red! The publisher is working on the ePub format now and it should be available in the market in the next two weeks. I'll be sure to post on this thread when it's out. Thanks!
