firing a 10mm though a .40S&W

Anyone have any experience with seeing a 10mm chambered and fired in a .40 pistol? I'm guessing the slide would hang out of battery too much for the gun to fire, but I'm curious if this is possible or documented.

There's lots of information online about firing a .40 through a 10mm, but not the other way around.

I'm not sure what you mean, add a 10mm upper (slide, barrel, etc) to a .40 caliber pistol frame?
I know with Glocks that won't work.

No... I mean chambering a live 10mm round in a .40S&W chamber and pulling the trigger.

Ha I know it's dangerous, FatPants, I'm just wondering if it's even possible. Like I said, it seems like the extra few millimeters on the 10mm's case length would keep the gun too far out of battery to fire.

if the round did go off it would probably explode your face. you are most likely correct about it being to far out of battery to fire

You'd have to TRY to get a 10mm into a .40 S&W chamber by manually single loading it. They will not go into the magazine (except at the top) and would probably wedge if you tried to insert the mag with that one round up the chute. If the weapon is functioning properly, it will not fire out of battery (slide held open by a too long round). If you did manage to get the firing pin to strike on a partially open/chambered round, you'd get get an uncontained discharge, resulting in shrapnel from the open breach, hot gases from the explosion, a damaged gun, and maybe serious injury. Why would you want to try it? .40's sometimes get into a 10mm if the shooter is not paying attention, but they also often fire normally, as they are shorter and ARE contained properly in the chamber.

The 10 MM case is too long to fit the chamber it can't be done safely.

There's your answer, sorry if you don't like it but that's the truth of it.
