Alright guys on 2 threads I said I was gonna get a model 57 in .41 magnum. I've never had one but felt I knee enough about the cartridge to want one. I have .44 mags and .45 colts but this one seems to beg to shoot some hogs! Now I have a current thread running on refinishing this bad boy back to a glossy blue. It has undoubtedly been refinished in a matte blue finish with very little wear at the muzzle. It is a no dash and has the pinned barrel and recessed cylinder, however I do not believe the hammer or trigger are original to the gun also where the serial number is there is a indentation if C.C. Don't know if they're possibly initials or something else. I'm gonna carry this thing in a shoulder holster while hunting and occasional ccw The gentleman I bought it from gave me two hks speed loaders, an extra 657 cylinder, and about 125 rounds of ammo. Gun has some sort of hogue wood grips on it that I will be replacing.

Any recommendations on a shoulder holster that won't break my bank account? I saw the lawmen leather goods and they are pricey can't say I've heard enough about them to justify the price.

Hammer and trigger are not original. Those look like flash chromed 80s or later parts. Original would be case case color hardened and wide target trigger and hammer. I have the exact same gun with a higher serial number. Very nice S&W. I use a Miami Classic holster. They're not inexpensive but will absolutely retain the gun and allow you to place the gun where it is easy to draw. The most comfortable grips for actually shooting it are the Hogue neoprene Mongrips. I have the wood ones like yours (and the neoprene) and if I go to the range to shoot it the soft grips go on.

I am going to replace the cylinder latch with one of the hogue ones for a speedier access. I'll look into the galco, as for grips I was thinking of changing them for some pachmyars.

Enjoy the M57. It is one hell of a nice revolver.
And the .41 Mag is a neat cartridge. Of course, it pretty much requires handloading to enjoy it to its potential...

Texas hogs? You a brave man. The .41 will punch through their armor though. Hard cast Keith type bullets do an amazing job.

Another option for carrying the revolver is a cross draw. I had Milt Sparks make a Hackathorn Special one for my S&W 66. It has great retention and doesn't bang on the rifle hanging from your strong side shoulder.

BTW, welcome to the .41 mag family. I have a really nice 6" Ruger Blackhawk fitted by Ruger with a steel grip frame (standard frames are aluminum) and a Marlin 1984FG in .41 mag. Lots of fun.

Decent looking Model 57; the finish on it kind of reminds me of the matte blue S&W use to put on the Model 28. I had one years ago that was also a 4" version. Mine had the action smoothed up a bit and was one decent shooting revolver.

Thanks FrankV, I intend to shoot it shortly. I'm ordering some more ammo from Georgia arms as we speak. I might even decide to upgrade it to my primary piece depending on how I can shoot with it.

A holster maker I really like is Simply Rugged www.simplyrugged.com
They make a pancake that's secure, concealable, fast to use, & offer inside out straps which allow IWB & OWB use of the same holster. They also offer the chesty puller system that converts the holster to a chest holster which is very useful fishing or in really rugged country.
El Paso Saddlery offers beautiful holsters too. There are a lot of good holster makers here in the states.
