This Remora OWB was tried on a normal belt, worn fairly tight, 10:30 position while standing; 5'11", 180 lbs. Commercial Russian Makarov, single-stack.
It's for concealed carry, as I'm brand-new at this.

About an inch of space is left between the inside of the grip and my flesh or inner t-shirt. The gun seems to be pretty well concealed, even under this sports shirt with only thin stripes, widely spaced. I've seen a Very extensive number of photos and Youtube videos of people wearing holsters, but don't remember this being discussed.

Is such a gap between the grip and your t-shirt/body normal, in order to feel somewhat comfy while trying to get used to it?
This forum was selected because there are very few topics on the Holsters forum, and that forum seems to hide in a 'deep shadow'.

It is to allow space for you thumb and fingers to gain a Master Grip on the gun before you draw it from the holster.

When you say "10:30", do you mean you're wearing it cross-draw just the the left (your left) of your belt buckle?

A thread like this might have gotten better exposure in the S&T subforum

Where the butt of the gun sits is totally dependent on holster design and your body shape. I wouldnt consider 1" gap to be excessive. The gap is hard to determine unless you get to try the holster on first.

Ive been carrying just about daily for over 40 years. I discovered the DeSantis Speed Scabbard about 30 years ago. I have one for every gun I normally carry. It works for me but may not for you.

I'd wear your holster for a while and see if you get used to it. Starting to carry a gun is not something you get used to in a few days or weeks.

9mmepiphany:

As a lefty, 10:30 seems about right. It's the same 10:30 I've used to scan (since '79) when atc calls out other IFR/VFR traffic etc.

GRIZ22: 'Roger' that. The box arrived before I got back into town last night. Plan on wearing it when on most errands.

Zerodefect: if this Remora doesn't seem as promising, might try yours. You wear a small buffer to avoid being jabbed by the beavertail or the hammer spur on my Polish P-83?

To clarify, my OWB is for concealed carry, and the Remora IWB which was included is Not comfy when the Makarov is inserted.

This DeSantis Mini-Slide hlds my Ruger SR9c very close to my body but feels comfortable and I can still get a decent grip on my gun in the 2 o'clock position.

I admit I had to look up that Remora model as I was unaware they were making OWB holsters.

It seems like a holster that would be prone to problems. Is it really secured to the belt by velcro as the product description says? If so, that would concern me, even with a small gun like you carry. In addition, typically leather and kydex are better choices for holster material as they are stiffer and will not flop around.

As a lefty and carrying at 10:30, you are carrying OWB in the Appendix position. I have a Raven Concealment Systems Phantom like Zerodefect and while a great holster, it would probably poke you if worn in the Appendix Outside the Waistband (AOWB?) position since it isn't designed for that. It is designed for wear on, or behind the hip.

A leather, straight drop or muzzle forward holster would be my choice if I were going to carry AOWB (thats weird to say, I don't think I've seen that written before).

I like maximum concealment and prefer my grip to be right against my body. I carry at 3:30 as I am right handed. A further out grip placement allows for a better draw, but I've made the choice for deeper concealment and a slower draw. Theoretically you'd want the best draw you can conceal, but I like being able to bend over or be active without revealing my carry. The further out the grip the more fabric will print during action

I'm in the close to body carry camp also.

For my SW 642, I've used a Desantis OWB that fit snuggly. (I never pocket carried it; made me look like I had a cheeseburger in my pocket.) I've just purchased a Ruger SR9c (like BannockBurns) and am looking at holsters. I'm liking the CrossBreed SnapSlide so far. Minimalist, fits tight against the body, nice price. The leather kydex hybrid appeals.

I predict that the Ruger is going to be easier to conceal than the snub -- which I'm going to sell soon --

When I bought my SR9c some years ago there weren't a whole lot of holsters available for it. Found a Bianchi Minimalist holster and while it's not as flat or snug to the body as the DeSantis Mini-Slide, for an OWB design it still makes for a viable choice for CCW.

Thanks, BB. That's a nice looking holster.

I just checked a few sites -- Midway, Optics Planet and one other -- but so far don't find it available for an SR9c. I may keep looking later (even though the holster purchase for me has to wait a bit longer).

I confess that even though I'm liking the CrossBreed I posted above -- because it seems the Kydex will offer a firm grasp of the pistol and hold it tight -- leather does appeal.

Thank, JTQ. I like Mitch Rosen holsters, but they're not in my budget yet. Someday.

I'll be in your state starting in November, at least through spring (on business and pleasure) before heading back to Maine. I've never been in Florida for that long. Any holsters from down that way you'd recommend?
