Howdy,
Finished applying some Krylon camo to my Saiga 308 this weekend. ever did this before but read a few internet posts on how to.
My only complaint is that I should have stenciled the brown instead of application w/ brush. I like effect of paint when it is sprayed.
I post some pics to enjoy and look forward to feedback.

I thinkl it looks very good. I'm considering doing one my self, but i'll be aiming for a MULTICAM look

Looks good. I've been toying with trying an ACUPAT style paint, probably on just the stocks. Any function issues having paint on the bolt carrier and on the receiver where the safety slides over it? Did you have to do any degreasing or other prep to get paint to stick?

Looks really good much better than many of the home camo jobs I have seen on this and other message boards.

i like the varied breakup that the brushed paint provides you might have gotten less "camo" effect had you stenciled it all

Nice job, dude, looks great !! You've got me tempted to start monkeying around with one of mine now !!
Is that the 6 or 8 power POSP scope ? Just a couple hours ago i ordered my 2nd one from Kalinka, the 6 power w/ 400 meter reticle.

It looks good. I have been wanting to do something like that to my x39 saiga. One day I'll step up and do it.

I'd love to hear a more detailed report of how you did it and what you used.

My Dad just finished spraying this camo on my AR stock set. All it needs now is the matte clear coat and it'll be ready to install.

Great job.

I recently painted my 7mm mag. I used darker colors and streaked the paint at an angle and then took a mimosa leaf and sprayed over it to add depth.
Yours looks more commercial. Great job.

Thanks for the responses.
Tennesee Ned, yes tan was my base color then olive drab followed by brown
Z-Michigan, I removed the bolt carrier, stuffed some newspaper inside and placed tape on the hole that the safety covers. The rifle was cleaned after coming from range but I did wipe the stock and handguard w/ rubbing alcohol, I gave the outside of the gas piston cover some extra cleaning to ensure paint would stick.
MIL-DOT, 8x PSOP I did not paint the rubber eyepiece but will eventually probably with brushes. The front lens cover was used to protect the scope and the rubber seemed to take thye paint w/ no problem. I make template for rear of scope and taped it on then another paper template and more tape. So I have two small rings on front and back of scope that need to be painted by hand. If I find flip up covers I will paint them instead.
If anyone else has painted their rifles pistols magazines etc could you post pics please? i would like to see examples of people using leafs and grass to get effects on their firearms.

Nice job! :)

brushes usually give you a better paint job than stencils, although they can work OK. You get better definition and control with a brush.

This is totally "brushed" on a sprayed base......

These are "stencils" of a sort, I just used a paper punch to make holes in a sheet of paper and laid it on and sprayed, same with the second pick, but using a knife to cut the paper....

One of the best all around patterns (and one of the easiest to paint), and most effective in the field, but especially for animals, is the old ASAT pattern.....

The more you break the outline, using a light base with the darker colors, the more effective your camo will usually be, especially at a distance. If you try to copy patterns, they tend to act like what your coping, and usually blob at a distance, leaving the outline. Thats one reason the ASAT works so well. It also takes on the surrounding colors well adding to its effectiveness up close.
