I fired my first large group of .308 reloads over the weekend at the range I belong to. It was windy, 35mph, gust to 45 crosswind. It started blowing the backers and stands over but is was sunny and about 60degs. I set up at 100 yds with my stand.
All the rounds were 165 sst hornady bullets. I was using 4 50' slow fire pistol targets.
First 50 I loaded at minimum 39.0 grains based on the 168 gr charts. They were "so-so". I was getting about 6" MOA with majority being double keyholes. I think it was a combination of wind and the target moving.
Second 50 were with 41gr. but it suprised the crap out of me. I was getting a consistent 3" shooting 3 rounds each. Winds were pretty much the same most of the day then settled down about dark

I'm not sure why the grain amount improved the shots but my next batch will be 168 BTHP's. The AR10 is recommended at 2700fps and I was (according the book) at 2300fps. I did notice more powder burn around the neck but didn't extend down to the shoulder. I'm guessing it was because the bullet OAL was shorter.
