So, I am from a military background. I like my weapons bulletproof and accurate. The competition was a "Bowling Pin Match." My baby is my Sig 226 Navy. (Which I didn't shoot exeptionally with, middle of the pack.) Then I shot my Springfield 1911 TRP, (which I placed 3rd with.) Then, my buddy let me borrow his STI .38 super race gun..... I placed First against experienced shooters (well beyond my own skill IMO). When I was told I placed 1st my exact expression was "you've got to be <deleted> me." Now I want a race gun! But holy crap just one PISTOL can cost more than my FN SCAR, if you do it right. I really like the Zero magnification red dot sighting system. I have similar optics on my SCAR. Can you guys help me choose a system that can meld my "bullet proof/accurate" likings with something race gun like? Thinking perhaps an FN Tactical w/ a docter optic. Would really like all metal construction, but I know that's not always possible.

An
STI .38 super race gun
also has a muzzle brake to give those fast accurate follow-up shots. Reloading is usually a necessity to get the tuned muzzle speed needed for the brake.
Budget is an issue. Ammo, mags and accessories are expensive.
Another alternative is 9mm Super or 9mm Major power factor. Reloading is also usually necessary, but equipment and ammo reloading can be less expensive.

Lots of info and people to help here: http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=32

Id be happy with just 9mm. The .38 super was nicer for clearing pins, but un-necessary for normal competition. Maybe a heavy frame .45 auto. Don't like 40 SW though. I've been looking a the CZ 75 czechmate. Looks pretty legit. Thoughts?

Thoughts? = wow! Other thoughts? Wish I had the money.
Several shooters have said it's "Ready for competition OOB!"
You still have to reload to tune the bullet speed for the brake.

P.S. Trust me. 9 Super or 9 Major WILL clear a pin.

The CZ Custom Shop will take your check.

I built up a Glock 17 for fun competitions. I started with a used 17 and added the parts to create what I wanted. Add in a couple 33 round mags to reduce the number of mag changes needed in longer stages and I am a happy camper.

Glock 17...was a police trade in, $320.00
LW Barrel...threaded for comp, $112.00
Carver Comp...4 port, very effective, $89.00
ZEV Tech Fulcrum trigger, $180.00

total spent... $701.00

I have to say a few words on the ZEV trigger. It is simply amazing. It is adjustable for both pre and after travel, reset is less than 1/2 the factory. It comes with 2 striker springs of reduced weight and it pretty much a drop in unit. After careful adjustment my trigger is breaking very cleanly at 2 3/4 pounds with just the slightest over travel. Pre travel is non-existent, just the safety take up. It is very similar to a nicely tuned 1911 trigger. Functioning has been perfect through about 1500 rounds since I put it all together.

Building up a 1911 yourself is also a fairly easy project. I built my Super using a Caspian Frame and slide. It has been awhile but I would guess I had well under $1000 in parts. It is possible to build your own comped gun today for about $1200 starting with an STI 2011 high-cap frame.

Thanks a bunch guys for the ideas. So far I think Im liking the Glock 17 idea. I would really like the setup to be all metal, but over the years I have realized that I cant have everything I want. ;) The funny part is a month ago I had a nightmare that I traded in my Sig P226 Navy for a Glock! Seriously I did, no joke. That wont be happening though, because there is a used Glock in the used case at my Gunstore for a very affordable price. Its a Gen 2 that spent most of its life in the box. Glock 17 + Threaded Barrel & Comp + Trigger Job + Docter Optic= Affordable First Race Gun that is tough to boot.

You can buy a stainless steel Glock frame from http://www.ccfraceframes.com/ and sell the plastic lower and end up with it costing about $75.00. The CCF frames are $319 and 17 lowers sell for $250-275. People buy the lowers to buy carbines on so they don't have to always be swapping their handgun lower onto their Mech Tech upper.

With some tuning, you can run that TRP very fast. You won't be as fast as a race gun, but still fast. Under 3 seconds at table is possible that way which is good speed for nonpro level shooters, and consistant times in 3 and 4 second brackets likely.

Just sayin'.

Good luck, I love pin shooting:D
