This is my first deer of the year. I got him opening morning at about 8:00 AM. I shot him with a Remington Model 7 .260 at about 50 yards. He's no monster, but after a bit of scouting on gov't land, you don't pass these up. He was an 8 point with a 14" spread. I've also got another deer pic and a bobcat pic to post up but don't haven't got the pics back yet. Note to self: Buy your own frikin' camera!

I stay at a pretty large deer camp. We butcher all of our own deer, and since mine was the first one tagged, I got to donate mine to the cause. :D

Congratulations, nice buck! How do you like that Model 7 in .260? Something about that .260 really appeals to me, but I haven't found anyone who owns one so I can pick their brain about it.

Lonestar.45,

I love my .260. I especially like it in the Model 7 because it's very light and short, so it's easy for me to tote all day if need be. I was shooting a Remington 140 gr. Core Lokt at the critter when he fell. I had originally bought 120 gr. Premier AccuTip to shoot out of it, but decided I didn't need those for the shots I would be taking. You can see the exit wound in the pic. It was almost an inch in diameter. As far as the caliber goes, I think the .260 is a great deer round, and I've even heard of some folks using them on larger game like elk. It's a new gun and this is the first deer I've shot with it, but I'm 1 for 1, so I can't complain. I'd be hard-pressed to sell this gun. I really like it a lot, and it will probably get a lot of use for years to come.

Check that...

I did shoot another 8 point with it last year, so this one isn't the first one I've shot with it. Ok, so two down with it. Performed equally as well with the first one last year.
