First foray into F-class

ArchAngel - thanks for the thoughts...didn't know there were new powders that did that. For now, I'm going to start with "clean the bore than once in 400 shots", lol. Really happy with the SD's I'm getting with Reloder19 right now (7ish on the last round, even with crap accuracy).

Ordered a Pac Nor barrel last night. 30" stainless super match, 1:7 twist, 5 land, 6.5x284 with a .290 neck.

I just got off of an extended email exchange with "Jay" - basically I ordered something impossible to make (asked for 1.25" OD with a small shank) and Jay was very patient with the newbie. Provided the barrel shoots anything resembling decent, they have my business long term just because they put up with me.

Also got the barrel threaded so I can put one of these on it: http://www.jprifles.com/buy.php?item=JPRE-9S

I know it won't be allowed (or needed) in F-class, but mostly I just think it'd look amazing.:rofl::)

With a heavy barrel, it's not too hard to find a load that shoots sufficiently accurate and to almost the same point of aim with and without a muzzle device. My son shoots a .300 Win Mag, and he has to take the brake off for F-Class. It was not much fiddling to get one load which shoots well for both conditions.

Good to hear. I fell in love with muzzle brakes shooting my friend's 338 lapua. Actually seeing the bullet impact on steel through the scope is addicting. Can't do that with my current (admittedly 5 pounds lighter than what it will be with the new barrel) 6.5x284 right now. Want the brake for that.

Cleaned the bore really well...the damage to the throat is actually visible to the naked eye. Patches are coming out completely clean, but the first two inches of rifling looks....dirty. M friend loaned me his Tikka in 308 for deer season, so I'm good to go there, barrel for my savage is due in early February...should be good to go.

Pacnor arrived today. It'll probably be 2-3 months before I get to shoot it, but I have to say...wow. What a piece of metal. I look at it and just say "someone who cares made this" (this coming from an engineer who works in a place with a full up CNC shop). If this this shoots half as good as it looks, I'll be thrilled.
