Hi im looking to buy my first gun. not the first gun i owned or shot lol. but first one im spending money on not passed down to me. im wanting a .45 cal or a 40 for 400 and below and suggestions?

I'm not you,
I don't know you
what works for me, well, may or may not work for you
best bet is to take the money and try them out to see what works for you
I would stick to a caliber you already have, unless you are dead set on a new ammo type to stock or have a mancrush on a specific caliber.

Think of this as an opportunity to research and go fondle the goods,
to paraphrase someones sig line, you won't remember spending a bit more, but you will remember the POS you bought to save money for the rest of your life.

That said, there are many nice used guns out there, and I like the CZ 82, it is an amamzing pistol for just a bit more than a Hi-Point, and the 83 (civilian version) goes for around 400.

RIA (Rock Island Armory) .45 1911, tatictal (Has the typical 1911 upgrades already done / factory). I have been wanting one of these....

The are right at 400, maybe 40 -50 more. That's my .02. Good luck. :D

I dont know you either, but I wont hold that against you

Steve_e, tell us a little about your shooting background, you ability and the intended use of the gun and it will help get you some more responses.

And, welcome to The High Road!

Steve! good for You. A gun is like a shirt. You'll have to search to find what will fit You. Good Luck.

Yes, I suggest you find a range that rents guns and try a few out, see what you like.

In that price range you will find plenty to look at especially if you are open to buying used.

Sadly i dont know of any ranges around here that rents gun's i live in london kentucky. my shooting experience ranges a lot of different types of guns. sks norinco was my frist gun passed down by my dad. but i shot AR-15. browing high power 9mm, glock 40, Lorcin 9mm, and a 1911 cant remember the brand shot it just one day. by far my fav was the 1911 the power it had. thats why i put the cal's up there but that's pretty much my shooting background

New Glock 23 Gen 3 (.40S&W) at a really good price online can be $450ish, used will be cheaper.

Thanks im going around tomorrow to local shops and see what i can find there
