Well yesterday was the day that caused my week to go by ever so slowly. All of the anticipation built up from knowing that I was going to purchase my first handgun on Saturday. Although the day came and went, this is what I pretty much got from it:

I had the mindset that I was going to choose from three handguns; the XD 9, PX4 Storm 9mm, and the M&P 9. The thing that surprised me was although the XD was the most comfortable in my hand, I didn't like the way that it fired; disappointing. I kept shooting it lower than my target and to adjust wouldn't feel natural to me, so I marked it off my list.

Next in line was the PX4. I really fell in love with this gun quickly. I never thought that a handgun could fire so smoothly. The safeties were a nice feature to have, but not what I was looking for. Besides that, I knew that I shifted the firearm to the "Good" category.

Finally, to the all popular M&P 9. I was looking forward to getting some shooting time with this weapon. I liked not having to worry about safeties because I knew that I wasn't going to have a round chambered. Great accuracy.

After I finished off 250 rounds I felt confident about my decision and figured it was time to head to my local gun store and make a purchase. I went ahead and decided on the Beretta PX4 Storm 9mm. I loved the low recoil and nice reset that would allow me to place crucial shots to defend myself or loved ones. The adjustable grips are icing on the cake in my book, and what sold me. What I came to find out was that it is hard to find a holster to fit the gun for the small of my back.

So with that, I decided to go with the Heckler & Koch P2000 9mm and Triton HiVel 9mm +P 115 gr. JHP. What a fantastic handgun! Even better than the latter. :D I instantly took it to the range and fired 100 rounds with no problems. I am really excited about this purchase and look forward to many hours at the range. Here are some photos of my first handgun.

You may find that the small of the back holster is more of a pain in the a&&. Except for TV or movies they are not that popular.

You made a good choice, I like the M&P better but thats just fit and feel for me. Why did you exclude glocks from this test?

On the issue of SOB carry, its not the most practical method also can be dangerous if you slip and fall on it. But to each their own.

Sooo... you researched 3 great guns and shot all three... picked your favorite... then bought a completely different gun?

Makes no sense to me.

At least you bought a nice one.

Yes indeed, good for you. If you are like many of us, the first one will lead to another, then another, then...

At some point later in your life you will look around and ask yourself - "where did all these guns come from?" :)

Lemme get this straight...

Your first handgun is a H&K?

Smart man.

My first handgun was a drunken argentinian monkey's impression of a 1911.

My second handgun came from a company that is more known for making cars and televisions.. I think they make guns out of the leftover parts.

Then I realized I couldn't afford to buy any more cheap guns.

My first handgun was a HK P7M8...lol Never shot a p2000, but good choice =)

I may, but I really felt that this was the best way to conceal for me. Minus the digging in the back when driving in my car. :) If I find it to be a PITA then Ill switch to something else.

Why did you exclude Glocks from this test?

I held the G17 and G19. Besides their large following, it really just didn't feel comfortable in my hand. Also, for some reason the plastic trigger, had a noticeable plastic on plastic pull to me and thats not what I was looking for. Great guns, but not my cup-o-tea.

LOL. Yeah it didn't make sense to my friend that came along for the ride either. When it came down to it, there wasn't a complete 100% answer for me with the other guns. Yes the majority of them shot great in my hand but something was missing. So I held the H&K and immediately knew that was the gun that I wanted. Great manufacturer, awesome rep., and regardless I knew this would be a kicka** firearm. In the back of my mind I knew that I hadn't fired it yet, but something told me to make a blind purchase and I would be happy. So I did, and I was really stoked that I did too. :D. After letting my friend fire it, he too agreed with the purchase.
