I'm looking to buy my first hunting rifle. I'll mainly use it for deer or elk with the possibility to go for coyotes or even moose.

I've narrowed it down to 3 different choices.

a Remington 700 SPS in 270 WSM

or

Browning A-Bolt Composite Stalker in either a 7mm Rem or 300 Win.

My reason for choosing these rifles is simple, they feel good in my hands and I found good deals on them.

Ammo cost is not a concern, I reload.

Just looking for opinions, from the research I've done they all seem pretty close for what I want with the 300 looking better if I wanted to go after bigger game.

I've never hunted before but have done a lot of shooting.

Personally ive never seen a huge difference between the .300 and 7mm (i own both), but ive also never shot at anything over about 250-300lbs. Id probably go with the browning, but ive always wanted one. I already own an SPS in 7mm remington magnum, with hot handloads im over 3k with 168grn vlds and shooting under 1".

Both are good guns. The calibers you mention are good choices too. I prefer the .300 Win Mag myself. I handload for it and it just WORKS for me.

although I'd best guess 7mm a bit light for moose (never shot one)but 300 definately too heavy on deer & 'yotes

7mm!!

The 7mm RM is plenty for moose.

As for the .300 WM being overkill; He's a handloader, he can make it suit his game. I use 8mm Rem Mag, which is more potent than the .300, during combined season.

also, as stated I've never shot a moose so, I don't know

But I've shot scads of varmints and hand loaded or not , 300 WIN 300RUM or 20mm:what:, is too much for that

so like I said,

7mm!
