I am looking at buying an over-and-under. I am looking for a shotgun in the $600-800 range. I have looked at several models such as Yildiz, Stoeger, etc. I currently own a Remington 1100, Remington 11-87, and a Benelli Superlight. I have always wanted an over-and-under, but am kind of confused as to what brand to buy. I must stay within the budget of $600-800 (wife said so, HAHA). Any suggestions? I like engravings, walnut stocks, etc. But if I can't afford it, I can't. Has anyone heard anything about Stoeger ot Yildiz?

I am currently lusting after a CS Ringneck. Why? I love twin triggers. And most O/U manufacturers are sticking us with single triggers these days. The Ringneck has twins.

I believe it meets your budget requirements, too.

Also, I believe Ruger has a reasonably-priced OU (single trigger, though.)

Take a look at the Mossburg Silver Reserve . I have one and love it . They are under $500 at Walmart . For a little more , you can get the sporting clay model . .

The CZ O/U, made by Huglu is quite a deal for 600/700 bucks.
There are plenty of threads on it here and I believe it's a good step up from the russian ones.
Take a look
The other option is getting a used Browning/Beretta.
Most of them are fine and they are in the 800 to 1200 range
You never know what you might find.

So the first question is what do you want to do with an O/U?

Is this a field gun, or a target gun? Will you consider a used arm?

A little more information will lead to a better result for you.

Definatly look at some of the better known O/U's used...

You can occasionaly find some well-maintained Red-Labels, Citoris, etc. for your price range

You should be able to find a used Citori Hunter (basic plain jane) in th $800 range. I would also keep my eyes out for a Miroku (they make the Citori), and SKB in the 5-800 range.

+1 citori or skb in that price range.

Berretta's are very nice have 2 older Silver Snipes 12 ga excellent finis and quality, great shooters single trigger, Picked up my last one for $400 its a very ealy model and shoots great. An option!

Used Beretta 686 Onyx

I have a used Beretta 686 Onyx (field grade) I'm looking to sell. 12 ga. with 26" barrels. I picked it up for a dove and quail gun, and I can hit pretty good with it. I also bought a new set of factory chokes for it. I have a few too many shotguns. I can go $450 if you're interested. I'm in Ft. Worth also. Let me know if you'd like me to send pics.

Yildiz O/U

I recently bought a Yildiz 20 ga at Academy ($388)for my wife as a cheap way to get her into the sport (she liked it because it was pretty, I liked it because it was a very reasonably priced o/u). The deciding factor in buying this gun was due to the fact that the warranty is through Briley, who is based in Katy, TX, which is 15min. from my house. If anything goes wrong with it, I can take it to them rather than ship it. Her first trip to the range with this gun was a few weeks ago. It was really hot and she pooped out after a box. I shot the rest. The following are my impressions of the gun.

1. Very, Very, Very Lightweight. Being a 20 the recoil wasn't bad, for me, however it bothered my wife. I imagine a 12 would hurt you after a while. In either case a good recoil pad should negate it.

2. Very tight out of the box- will probably loosen up after more shooting, we'll wait and see.

3. It is well balanced and hits where you point it (I hit 24/25)

4. Not one problem, again it has only had 50 rnds through it, so we will wait and see.

4. Personally I think it is a great looking gun.

Overall a good gun so far. In fact, because of my experience with it, I have been looking for an o/u for myself. I currently have a BPS which I've owned for many many years, great gun but I'm starting to get tired of pumping the dang thing.

I looked at the "special" Yildiz the other day at Academy($599), not only does it have all the extra "engraving" it also looks like it is a little heavier duty. I think it would be worth a look, especially if you want a 12ga.

The Stoeger, SKB, and BSA's are nice too, havent shot any of them, but they seem well put together and in your price range.

hawgboss-

You can pick up a used Browning, Beretta or SKB, maybe even a Ruger, if you look around, in that price range. Sometimes, you can go even lower, but you can't be in a hurry. All those guns are good, and they're forever guns like the Remingtons and Benelli you already own.

HOWEVER....

You already own 3 guns that are far better shotguns than an O/U you can buy new for the price range you specified.

That said, I think the Stoeger isn't a waste of money, since it's cheap, durable, functional, and looks pretty nice. I don't know about Yildiz, but I do know that Turkish guns have been problem-prone in the past, and that some still are. Huglus (CZ or DeHaan) seem to be an exception -- maybe.

So you want an O/U eh?..........The question is what do you plan to do with it?
Hunt or get into shooting clay games? If its hunt, you have a multitude to choose from. If it's Clays(serious clays) (lots of Clays)...then they are out of your price range.

I'm with Armedbear on this one. I don't think you'll be happy with an O/U of lesser quality than the guns you already own...... A cheap O/U is not an upgrade from a quality auto. Save your money and wait for a deal on a quality O/U.
