I am taking a trip to Louisiana next month and considering picking up a 12 ga Yildiz over/under. Anyone have much experience with these? I have read they are better thsn the comparably priced Remingtons etc.

My reason for picking one up are simple. I ain't got one, ya cant git the critter out here and I'll be there anyway. I already have 9 shotguns so I don't "need" one. It just looks like it would be a nice addition to the family. It will be used for occasional shooting, trap, dove, quail, but probably not my main carry gun for hunting though, I always seem to go back to my Wingmaster that I have had for over 25 years as my main hunting partner.

I've bought 4 in the last couple years, and they have all been fantastic. I bought a side by side for my dad, sent my 12 gauge O/U to my brother and kept the 20 gauge O/U for myself. Look around as much as you can to get the best wood. Sometimes you can really find a beauty.

I never heard of them, until I starting reading about them on shotgunworld. I ended up buying an O/U from gunbroker because I was unable to buy them locally.

My O/U was super light and felt right in my hands. I don't think you can go wrong with a Yildiz for the money.

I looked at 'em and was thinkin' about getting one in 20 gauge. I liked what I saw of 'em. But, I stumbled into a deal on a Spartan side by side and bought that, suits what I need a little better with the 20" barrels. Weren't for that, I'd have gotten that Yildiz and, heck, I might get one anyway later on.

Thanks for the input. Looks like I'll be adopting a new member to the family next month on my trip to Louisiana. Haven't found anything bad written about them, which supprised me since someone complains about everything. After I pick up the over/under I'll probably have to add another one. Wouldn't be fair to lket an immigrant be lonley with nobody from his home land to chat with. Maybe a 20 ga little brother. :D

After working at a shooting range for several months and I have seen over unders form kriegoffs (sp) to yildiz and I would Personall say that the yidliz is best for the price other than on some guns the top ejector will go out but thats a cheap fix

I wouldn't decide until I held it in my hand.

Handling it will be the final test. However, having handled and fired many shotguns over the years I am confident it will be something I will add to the collection. The only design I have never felt comfortable with or been able to shoot well is the Browning A5. Just never like the humpbacks.

My wife bought one for me for her wedding gift to me two years ago. It has been awesome with not one break down. Great balance and a beautiful stock. I recommend shooting 1 oz. loads through the 12 gauge gun though.

I like 20 gauge in doubles now days. I'm too old to take the punishment anymore. Guess I'm turning wussy. But, there's no choice, but high brass for waterfowl loads. Mostly use the double for doves and would use a Yildiz for that if and when I get one. 20 is plenty for doves and upland stuff. Does a good job on teal, too, but 3" 20 is starting to get as bad as 12 on the shoulder end of things.

Does Academy also carry the SXS Y gun? Was just on their web site it it didn't list them. Thinking about adding a .410 SXS to the family. Just cause I ain't got one, no other reason.

Yildiz S/S in stock

I bought a 20ga. Yildiz S/S, my first shotgun, three weeks ago. The Academy store said that they keep at least one of each gauge in stock, but they had several 12 ga. in the store.
The 'lil .410 was almost too nice to put back but I realized it wasn't for a brand new shotgunner.
My 20ga. is only 5.5 lbs.

I am seriously considering that 410. It is a beautiful gun, and would be a joy to carry in the field.
