Hello, a couple of you may know me from TFL. I posted less than 40 times there, so I'm not a well-known member by any means.

The second day this site was up, I registered, but I haven't posted...

Until now.

Anyways, there's an old shotgun I have that was imported by FIE and made in Brazil by ERA. It has an 18" barrel chambered in 20 gauge and has a cut-down stock (don't make fun of me, it was my first gun). I would like to know what the model number is so I can find a full-length stock and possibly a full-length barrel. I would also like your opinions on this just to tell me if I have a good gun or not.

And here's the warning:

I just took this sucker apart for the first time. The outside finish is pretty good, but the insides look like they were crudely hammer-forged. The action is pretty darn stiff (maybe I just need to break it in, I haven't shot it in about a decade), 5 times (I'm not kidding) as stiff as another shotgun I handled. So, in case you are considering buying one, watch out.

I'm trying to salvage this gun as my Glock 17 has replaced it as my HD gun (I know, I replaced a shotgun with a handgun, I'll get a Mossberg 590 in the future), and I have no other use for it, and I know I won't get any more than $10 for it, so I'm going to turn it into a sporting clays gun (I already have a sporting clays gun, a Remington 1100 built specifically for skeet before the days of screw-in chokes, the Brazilian POS is for fun).

Thanks

Well, the Brazilian singles and doubles I've seen and shot were all kinda crude, but they went bang on command only then.

Try gunpartscorp for parts, but hold not thy breath waiting.

Instead of an SC gun, I can see this as a truck gun in training. But do as you wish, it oughta be fun to play with...

ALso a short barrelled 1100 is a popular HD choice....

PerfectGlock,

Does it look like this?

KRESG.JPG

If so, its a Model SB made by CBC (Brazilian Cartridge Company) now owned by MagTech.
This model was also sold by the S.S.Kresge company as the Model 151.
(I borrowed this pic from an item at Gunbroker.com)
I have a 12gauge/3" w/26 inch bbl. just like it in like new condition that I've been wondering what to do with.
I wish I could tell you how it shoots but I've yet to put a round through it. I can tell you that the one I have has no safety
and the trigger is very light and short with no creep at all.
(dry fire with dummy rounds)

Have fun,

Rupe

No, sorry, it doesn't look like that. I'm sorry if I didn't say it was a side-by-side.

On the barrel, it says it was made in Brazil for FIE. This gun is over 10 years old. On the bottom of the receiver, it notes that it was made by ERA, surrounded by some sparse, cheap-looking engraving.

Thanks

Welcome Welcome Welcome

Glad you found us. Pardon our manners. We are always glad to see our old buddies.

That said thanks for the advice.

Also, we all know there is no such thing as a Perfect GLOCK!;) :D

OK, then, what, Perfect 1911? P210?

Oh yeah?! Well, then...um...There's no such thing as an MLH! Hah!;) :neener:

Sorry, it can't be a truck gun, I'm a city slicker and the biggest car I have is a Dodge Sebring:eek:

Maybe not a sporting clays gun, but just an all-around gun with a full-size stock. Does anyone know what the model number is?

I think I'll just make an add-on piece to replace the crappy excuse for a butt pad that they put on it.

Thanks for the help, guys.

PerfectGlock,
MLH is right, pardon our manners. Welcome! As you can see, I've not been posting here very long myself.
To be honest, I'm a bit disappointed that yours isn't like the one I posted above. It seems I'm the only one that owns one of these ugly POS's (besides the guy trying to get rid of his on Gunbroker:D ). That should tell me something.
I live in the Detroit area too. I know what you mean about no truck guns. The Truck Gun folks don't know how good they have it;) do they?

BTW, I have no idea what the ERA looks like. does that have exposed hammers?

Rupe

No, it's a regular-looking shotty, only with a cut-down stock and barrel as it came from the factory. No exposed hammers. I looked at Numrich Gun Parts' website, and I've narrowed it down to these models:

BR2
BR7
BR8

Would 20 gauge be considered large or small frame?

Oh, and I don't think that shotgun you have is so ugly, why don't I take it off your hands so I can rid you of that Brazilian crap?:D

I'm sorry, I can't post any pictures because I don't have a digital camera.

your discription makes it sound SORT of like a stoeger "coach gun" i know that SxS shotguns that are curently sold under the stoeger name used to be sold under others. adn they ARE brazilian made.

i'm gonns try and copy a link in but no guaruntees :(

here goes... stoeger coach guns does it look similar to the gun on this page?? oh and by the way i have been told that the quality adn external finish has improved over teh past 10-15 years due to interest from folks (like myself) who shoot cowboy matches.

as for the rough internal surfaces, mine had (had to sell it to eat after a lay off) certain surfaces where the milling marks were still fairly clear, but it locked up like a bank vault.

if it could be one of these, and it's as stiff as you say IM me adn i'll tell you how to smooth it up (simple, mildly time consuming [but not laboriously so] procedure but would require a full page to explain).

any way, good luck

cool how old is it again??

and did you buy it new or used?

both of the conditions you've mentioned could be explained by age and a bandsaw :D so could be your animal

i'll PM you the details of smoothing it (if it is a Stoeger and most steps will work on any break action gun) as soon as i get a chance

No, I bought it new and I saw it in an advertisement in an old gun magazine. I would appreciate the info on smoothing the action, breaking it open isn't that rough, it's just really stiff.
