Hello everyone! A coworker of mine sold me a mossberg 500a today. Came with a fiber optic type night sight installed on an 18.5'' barrel and he threw in a 28'' modified choke non vented/ported barrel as well as about 100 rounds of various 12 gauge ammo (some winchester, some remington, and some sellier and bellot It was a spur of the moment purchase as he had it with him. My main plan is to use this a home defense/ in case gun. Just wanted to make sure I didn't overpay though. He sold this to me for $200. It has never been fired and the 28'' barrel is still in the packaging. If i were to sell the 28'' as I don't need it, what would I expect to get for it?

You'd easily get $100 for that spare barrel, maybe $125 I suppose.

I'd suggest hanging onto it though and shooting some clay games to learn how to work the shotgun.

$200 is a good deal, a real good deal. The barrel will easily sell for $100 or so. If you ever plan on hunting with it though, I'd keep it.

Great deal. If it was me I would keep the barrel. Its worth more in its present form than you can get for it. It will continue to appreciate in value. 500s are 1 of my favorites. If I could pick 1 it would be with a 28" modified barrel. no foolin.

U got a GOOD deal, I would keep the extra barrel in case you decide to start bird hunting or the clays. You may want to check and see if it has a plug in it if your going to use it for home defense. Take it out and you'll gain extra ammo.

I have a similar Mossberg package and I am surprised at how little my gun has the 18.5" barrel on. I guess busting a few clays every week or so has become more important to me. So for that is is the 28". It seems to be my most shot firearm as of late.
I think you got a good deal.
Now go shoot it!
