Hello,

Today was a very good day.

I decided to go squirrel hunting, and when I opened the door, I saw the UPS feller had been here. He brought me an Ed Brown smooth, flat MSH that went in with a minimum of fitting. I'll post about that later.

I was able to take a shot at a squirrel. I'd not seen them out of the trees, and this one was on the ground. I stalked to within a few yards, and squeezed the trigger. <click> Damn. Misfire. Remington bulk tends to do that at times.

I worked the bolt and reacquired the target. I was shooting into the sun, but I had shade from the trees. The wind kicked up and I was only able to see a blinding light and a bit of fur. I felt my shot was on, and so I took it.

I took the gray squirrel center of mass.

I don't ever feel good about gut shots. However, the squirrel expired quickly. No follow up shot was necessary.

What surprises me is the size of this squirrel. I have both fox and gray squirrel in my woods, and this is a gray. It's old enough, however, to be almost as big as the larger fox squirrel.

nice kill. i recently took an old grey with my .177 crosman using just the irons..

it was a clean, one shot kill. @ about 15 yd, actually the impact was almost in the same exact spot as yours, but from the other side. my aim was about .25 off the impact.. not too bad

it was the first kill i had taken with that particular air rifle. being my first one, since i am usually an AR and garand type of guy..

That's a Romanian M69 training rifle. They were selling for cheap (I think I paid $65 for this one) until it was discovered they could place in, if not win, matches.

Seems they have target grade bores. Mine will put all of them into a .25" hole at 50 yards if I do my part, with Remington subsonics.

I drilled and tapped to take advantage of that accuracy. Also floated the barrel.

I believe that the entire rig set me back $110 or $120 after I decided to 'scope it, and I'll go embarrass people with .22 match rifles that cost several times that.

:D

Congrats, hey what kind of scope is that? I like the -looks- of it kind of compact, how do you like it?

Thanks.

I've been telling people for years that Remington Subsonics are the real deal, but everyone dismisses them as more crap from Big Green. They do 1/4" @ 50yds out of any gun all day long.

It's a 'scope made by FM (never heard of them either) out of China.

The only bad things that I can say about it are that 1) the threads on the battery storage are not the best and 2) the images starts getting fuzzy around the edges.

The light pickup is awesome. I can actually pick up, identify, and fire on targets well after sunset - and after it's gotten hard for me to see with my naked eyes - and I have even used it to shoot on my range by the light of a full moon. I don't make a habit of doing that, but it's capable of it. The first setting of the lighted reticle is a bit bright, but it works.

It is compact.

Many times, especially on less expensive 'scopes, the adjustable parallax numbers are off. Not so on this one, and I use it as a rough rangefinder.

It was only $50 or so and I expected it to break by now, but it's held up for two years in all sorts of weather, sub-zero to over 100*, and its taken its knocks without complaint.

It has surprised me.

Rem SS @ 50 yards. The flier was me getting "fifth-shot-itis".

50 yards, nailed the bottom of this spent 7.62x54r case.

I think they're pretty accurate, if you hold still long enough for them to exit the barrel!
