I acquired a HK 7 PSP a few weeks back and had been itching to shoot it. In the meantime a friend got an early Christmas present – a XD40 compact. We went with a neighbor.

Of course we each tried our respective firearms first. The PSP shoots really well. We were shooting at 25 feet and while I was not getting them in the same hole, the grouping was tight. The trigger is a little different than I am used to, I don’t know how to put it into words but I think I am going to have to practice a bit more.

I shot 115 grain WWB, 147 grain Fiocci, and 147 grain JHP (WWB). Between the 115 and 147 WWB I noticed a significant recoil difference. Not in any way harsh though. I had heard some people discourage the use of 147 grain ammo in the PSP, but I did not see a hint of a malfunction in about 80 rounds and three ammo types.

Also I was expecting the gun to get hot. We were not doing repeated mag dumps (we had 5 handguns) but it just got warm, not hot.

My friend and his neighbor shot really accurately as well, surprising them both I think considering how it is a little different animal.

Then I shot his XD40. I did not know what to expect, as I am used to guns with hammers. I really liked it and shot fairly well. Not as good as with the PSP or my other guns, but better than I expected for trigger like that.

My only beef with the gun is that I would not be comfortable with concealed carry and one in the pipe. It appears the striker cocks with loading a round and it cannot be decocked? I am XD ignorant so please excuse me if I am dumb.

The neighbor has shooting experience but seemingly not a lot. He shot one of the tightest groups I have ever seen out of my HK .45 USP tactical. Darn near one hole out of 10 shots. It shocked him.

Overall, my best shooting is with the USP tactical. With some practice maybe the PSP will take the crown.

Well congrats on the psp . Like the 1911 its a pistol worth owning even if you dont really have a utility for it ( god knows i did not " need " mine lol ) . I also found the trigger to be " not what i expected " but it is consistent and shoots well .
