A friend of mine bought a VZ58 from czech-point and we finally had a chance to take it out. He is not an AK fan and this is his first 7.62 X39 rifle. He does have lots of other very very cool toys mostly 308. He was insistent that I bring my AK, a very used SAR1, for comparison. First impression was how smooth the action was on the 58. The second thing I noticed was the safety being in a reasonable place for use. I have heard how much smaller they are supposed to be. Setting next to my AK it was only 1/4" shorter. The LRBHO was nice but after a 30, 40 and 75 round mag dump I do not need to be in that big of a hurry to change mags and reload. As far as accuracy went, even out at 500yds there was no noticeable difference regardless of which one of us was shooting. My sar had a much faster rate of fire when bumped than the 58, but the 58 is still new and tight. Overall I found the 58 to be a nice rifle and slightly more refined than my SAR and very much more refined than my wasr's. I don't see myself laying $800 out for one for some time. I would rather find a slightly used SAR1 and be much happier.
