i bought a used 1187 premier trap this last spring and got a chance to try it on wednesday night and shot a 24-25 and a 23-25 with my reloads. several friends tried it out with a few shots and liked it as i do, 70-80 shots with out a bobble. i am on the hunt for a 32" o/u trap browning, but have not found one to my liking or price range yet, so the hunt goes on. i us a browning 34" BT-100 for my singles trap and was looking for a shotgun for doubles trap and other clay games,i have several other browning o/u,s, but they have shorter barrels for hunting and i like longer barrels for the clay games.i have three mec 9000,s and a old texan progressive press to feed my shotgun habit. eastbank.

You might want to look for a used Browning Gti; these were the forerunners of the 325/425/525/625 family. Mine has 32" barrels and about 300,000 through it. It is currently replaced with a Beretta gas gun (shoulder stuff), but you should be able to find one for about $1000-$1200

Note the "shoulder stuff" comment.
I started out shooting trap with an 1100.
I tried everything else I could borrow or afford to buy, but always went back to the soft kicking gas gun. I put up with an O/U for doubles to avoid the clash and clatter of the auto, but for the long singles and handicap events, it was always the Remington.

Shooting singles, my 1100 does not eject at all.
I now use one of those little TS ejection port clips.
My first barrel's extension was drilled for a bow of piano wire to narrow the ejection port enough to snag the hull by the rim.

My shoulder isn't from shooting - as my screen name implies, I have shot 1oz loads for a long time and for the last few years, 3/4oz loads. My shoulder stuff is torn cartilage and I am starting to like my Smurf gun......... ;)

When I had an 1100 in 28, I used the T&S to keep hulls close. By putting it on just right, it would still eject, but land at my feet

east bank, very nice looking Remington. I use a 1100, with 30" barrel, with the catch for singles all the way back to the final yardage during handicap. I do have a Browning BT99 with the 32" barrel and the adjustable stock that is really nice also for singles back to the handicap yardages, but I do prefer the 1100.

For doubles I use a Beretta model 682 Combo model, I believe it is the silver model, not sure of that though, I'd have to check one of my gun vaults. I'm sure you could check the gun shops and pick one of those up for under $1200.00 in excellent condition.

The main thing is always remember, beware of the guy with only one gun, chances are very good he can use it exceptionally well. Cheers!

you have to watch the one gun men, a friends brother came to one of our sporting clays shoot carrying a fieldgrade 12 mossberg 500 pump, several shooters made snide remarks about his shotgun that were not to nice. he shot a 44 and at the club house later he said sporting clays just didn,t interest him as it was to easy. i didn,t know if he was kidding or not, but damn he could shoot that mossberg. only two men did better than him and they were die hard sporting clay shooters, i shot a 37 and thought i was lucky. a long barrled o/u is in my future when i find what i want. eastbank

Yea, Leo HarrisonIII shot an 1100 into ATA Hall of Fame.
I personally wouldn't stray too far if you're already breaking 23's and 24's x25, but that's me. I use an 870 Competition.
BT-99 or BT-100 is good choice also.

I have a Mossberg 500 and started a trap league with it a year ago. I was planning to upgrade to something nicer. Then, I shot a few 24 out of 25 with it. Last night I hit 42 out of 50 with it. I have lost all interest in upgrading. Plus after shooting it a lot over the last year it's become a good shotgun that I just enjoy shooting.

Jim, if you can get that 1100 to eject in front of you, it should not be a problem. I've shot to the right of autos on doubles and they don't bother me as long as they eject forward.

1100 trap

I have a very nice 1100 trap that I shot a lot...used a device that looked like a fork that went in the bolt in place of the operating handle. It caught singles everytime. The guys next to me would frown when they saw the auto but got over it when I wasn't bouncing hulls off of them. Love my 1100.
