Hi everyone. This is my first post but I've been a long time lurker. I have a question about my Norinco 1911 that I'm customizing as my CCW. I would like to have the frame and slide done in NP3 with all the accents in polished stainless, including the beavertail grip safety. When fitting and contouring the frame and slide, is there a problem filing steel right next to stainless with the same file? I ask because I know that you aren't supposed to media blast stainless with media that's been used to blast carbon steel because the slag will embed itself in the stainless and cause it to rust. I assume the same would happen if you were to file the two metals together. Is this the case? Thanks.

No, it should not be a problem. A smooth filed surface is not likely to hold any iron particals anyway.

You need to clean your files with a file card pretty often.

It also helps to rub a white chalk stick on the file before each use, which will keep them from loading up with metal particles in the first place.

BTW: Nobody I know off has a set of files they only use on SS , and another set of files for carbon steel.
