I have a tenuous and slippery grasp of the complexities of fitting an aftermarket barrel in the 1911. At least I know enough to let the professionals do the fitting. I even managed to mis-fit a Kart E-Z Fit barrel on my Norinco.

The BHP would seem to be a bit different..no lower lugs to cut, bushing to fit, etc. You'd think it'd be a bit easier, but I don't know. Thats why I am asking you worthy gents (gals ?).

Do aftermarket barrels for the BHP need to be 'finished reamed' for headspace adjustment? I don't quite see how the rear of the hood could be dressed due to the little 'nub' protrusion in back ot the hood that fits into the face of the slide.

Do you need to monkey around with the lower slot that rides on the cam thats imbeded into the frame?

If the 'fitting' is only done on the top of the barrel, what do you start lowering first...the slots in the barrel that mate with the lugs in the slide, or the lugs in the barrel that mate with the slots in the slide????

I'm not asking for an instant on-line BHP 'smithing class, but would like to know a bit more about how the BHP aftermarket barrels are fitted.

Thanks,

salty.
