I assume i should find 1st gen colt grips because the uberti is supposed to be a copy of the 1st gen colt.
Here is something you should keep in mind.
If your Uberti has a one piece wooden grip, the grip frame and the wooden grips were screwed together and ground and sanded to shape as a unit. Then the parts were separated and sent to different departments for blueing and varnishing. If you look at your one piece wooden grip you will see an identification number linking it to your grip frame so those parts could be assembled together again at final assembly.
The point is, the grip frame on Uberti single action revolvers with one piece wooden grips is custom shaped to the grips for a perfect match. Chances are if a different wooden grip was attached it would not fit perfectly.
So if you bought Colt grips, no matter what Generation you bought, they might not fit perfectly either.
If I get a chance later I will mount some 2nd Gen Colt grips on an older Uberti Cattleman and see how well they fit. Sorry, the only 1st Gen Colts I have are Bisleys, and their grips will not fit an Uberti Cattleman.
Also, Uberti may claim their revolvers are 'copies' of a 1st Gen Colt, but I can assure you there are subtle changes in shape and design.
