Fixen to get creative 28 gauge

Well in hitting a couple yard sales I came up with an old texan 28 gauge reloader. I have to go over to my friends and make a couple powder bushings and shot bushings. today I ordered wads nitro cards and such. I have been reloading a few round ball slugs with 490 round ball in a shot cup . I'm I'm working on a slug using a .530 rb and a wad column and maybe loading 15 peices of #4 buck for coon to coyote size criitters up close.
actually not a bad day sold a tool box given to me, bought the press and a bicycle sold the bicycle this morning.for more than I gave for both the press and bike it covered my bpi order and had enough left to buy my sweet wife lunch

I do not have the data , however Ballistic Products does list a 28 ga round ball slug with components, molds and everything.
They do a .410 as well.

Now a 28 ga is .550, which is pretty close to .54 caliber.

I have studied the manuals and consulted the experts (James at dixie slugs is fountain of knowledge) and plan on working slow . I see stardard shell at half the price of factory plus a couple of loads you can't buy

I sincerely appreciate this thread.
My notebooks with such data are missing and I am quite interested in all this.
PMs to me would be greatly appreciated as I would like to gather up data on all his again.

Dixie are great folks, just ashamed to admit I and mine messed with the Ballistic folks, as we found that data first.


These round ball slugs are quite proven in 12, 20, 28, and .410.
I was born in the mid 50's and Mentors were doing these, especially the .410 and even more so with the 28 ga.

We had War Veterans, along with Polio victims and the 28 ga round ball slug afforded them a good loading, in a gun easy to tote and recoil was manageable.
This of course worked extremely well for kids.



For thread information and comparison, it would be nice if someone listed data for .54 caliber black powder.
