"fixing" an FEG Hi-power

The LGS has one of these for $319 - it is a S/A model. Clearly not as highly finished as my Browning. When the hammer is cocked back, safety applied then released the hammer falls- is this really a D/A with decocker set up or is it possibly a fairly easy fix? I kind of like the idea of buying this as a DIY project-

Is this the version with the vented rib?

They made a D/A model with a decocker. Does it have the safety on the slide, or on the frame like a Browning? If the safety is on the slide then it is a double action I believe. I have the P9R which is the double action that is a lot more like a S&W 59 on the inside.

No vent rib- the safety (in fact the entire exterior of the gun) is a copy of the Browning which is what led me to believe it was a single-action

Well that was all I had. I took a high power apart once, and did not get everything back in place the first time, it did some funny things but no decocking (I got it back together, I know some people are cringing out there).

Did it look like this? Did you pull back on the trigger to see if it was double action?

Certaindeaf- it didn't look like the one in your picture; the safety is mounted below the slide on the frame- I did try the trigger without the hammer being cocked and it didn't move-

Copy that. Then it was broked.

Certainly broken, probably an easy fix but not for $319. Point out the issue and offer $100, then you have a project to tinker with.

It is hard to justify that price when you can get one from Cole's on Gunbroker for almost $100 less.

There's a problem with the sear and you most certainly don't want to shoot it without making repairs or at least cleaning. The fix won't be killer, but the costs would make the pistol not worth the purchase at that price. The trouble is that you don't know why it is happening. Bubba gunsmithing or gunk in the mechanism? One is easily remedied (I can't imagine gunk being the issue, but it can always be an issue) while the other requires replacing parts - which will cost $50-$80 to replace, depending.
