A 24 yr old sees a suspicious person parked at his family's business, he pulls up to the car and asks 'What are you doing here?'. The guy won't answer so the young man goes to get his cell phone and call 911. The undercover cop 'commands' him to stop, and shots him four times.

The cop says - the kid approached, the cop showed his badge, the kid tried to beat him up, and the kid ran to his truck for a gun.

Palm Beach County sheriff: Man lunged at deputy before he was fatally shot

Is there something to discuss here? What is the lesson to learn? What is the legal angle?

And that's sure not what it says here:
...The man in the other car was Sgt. Michael Custer, who was doing surveillance. Custer, Bradshaw said, made it clear he was a law enforcement officer. He was dressed in a black sheriff's tactical-unit shirt and showed Adams his badge.

"There's no doubt that the sergeant made every effort to make sure this guy knew he was a deputy sheriff," Bradshaw said.

Both men got out of their vehicles. Adams lunged at Custer and tried to choke him. Custer got away and ordered Adams to the ground. Adams didn't comply, Bradshaw said...

So unless something worthwhile discuss here becomes apparent pretty quickly, this will be closed.

BTW, undercover cops don't show people badges, and wear police marked tactical gear. That's the point of being undercover is to not have the people discover you're a cop. Plainclothes cops might ID themselves as cops, but not undercover cops.

A cop doing surveillance in regular clothes and an unmarked car is working in "plainclothes." A guy pretending to be a crook so that he gather evidence to develop cases on real crooks is "undercover." There is a HUGE difference

Also, a juvenile is appropriately called a "kid," a 24 year old is an adult.

Before anyone starts to claim that there was no reason to apply lethal force I suggest you watch the dashcam video of Andrew BRANNAN killing Laurens County Sheriff's Deputy Kyle Dinkheller.

The situations are very similar.

Instead, Adams went to his truck and appeared to be trying to get something out of it, Bradshaw said. After ignoring more orders to get to the ground, Adams turned and faced Custer, a 14-year veteran.

Custer fired at the 24-year-old, who died at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Bradshaw declined to say how many shots he fired.

"I can tell you right now that experts will tell you if you wait one second and the guy's got a gun, you're dead," Bradshaw said."

Lots of things don't add up here. Why would he be hostile to a police officer just sitting at his family business? There's only one thing that comes to mind that makes sense: that garden shop is growing more than just normal plants. That's the ONLY reason I can think of for him being overprotective of the property against law enforcement. A garden shop would make a great cover for a grow-op.

Yeah, it's speculating, and yeah, this thread's probably going to be closed, but it will be interesting to see where this goes.

The discussion here is when you are stopped by a cop with a gun the smart thing is keep your hands in plain sight and just say 'Yes sir, no sir"

From the perspective of the deceased, it was a guy with a shirt and a badge coming from an unmarked car. It wasn't a uniformed officer with a squad car. Suspicion of the persons identity is justifiable to verify with 911.

standard issue for pbso deputies is the black cargo pants ,gunbelt and a black poloshirt emblazened with the sheriffs 5 pointed star about 5 inches with palm beach county sheriffs office, deputy sheriff clearly visible , on it in gold,on the left side of the chest.vest is warn over or under the shirt.or,they can wear the standard class a green uniforms.

I'm still wondering what the discussion here is about? What's our angle from a Legal forum standpoint?

Something happened. We aren't sure exactly what. So what are we learning here?
