I usually carry a Surefire flashlight with my CCW.

Surefire are expensive and so are the batteries most of them run on...BUT...I won't buy anything else. I replaced my 5D Mag lite with a 9P (about the size of a minimag). IMHO surefire are a good investment, very durable and tactically sound (6P Defender), you put the beam in a BG'e eyes at night and you'll have time to dress him up in your wife's "daisy duke" cutoffs, then do as you wish (take pictures, call the PD, pummel him or whatever you feel fit up to and including giving him the lead pill).
