I'm building a flintlock English rifle and am looking for a flip-up style rear sight. New England's sight is off as the blade should be vertical. It must be flat bottomed for an octagon barrel.

I found two at Friendship, IN, but the vendor immediately said, "Not for sale."

The below would need modification to work and Track of the Wolf doesn't have them in stock.

Sight must be flat bottomed.
Sight must be dovetailed.
Sight must have flip up blade for longer distance.

I was thinking that. It's not hard on a mill. Start with a small block of steel.

1) drill/ream a hole for the pivot pin/screw.
2) Mill out area for flip down long range sight blade.
3) Mill out area on the other side of the rear sight blade.
4) Use a pilot drill to cut out the shorter range rear sight blade.
5) Cut dovetails on both side.
6) Make flip-up rear sight and fit to base.

And if you have access to a milling machine, what is the problem to mill a flat section on the rear blade?
