For the first time, I'm thinking of using my Florida CCW License in another state -- Georgia.

I'm planning on visiting Atlanta in the near future.

Is there anything "special" I should know about carrying with my Florida CCW License while visiting Georgia?

 :)

Carrying concealed is much more limited in Georgia than Florida.

You can't carry in public buildings, churches, sporting events, any establishment serving alcohol (including restaurants with a bar), political events, bus stops, county hospitals, any public school or college, state historic sites, the list goes on an on. The Georgia Aquarium is off limits too. Anything that the police can misconstrue as a public gathering is off limits. They just tried to cheese some guy near Atlanta for carrying in a Wal Mart store, saying it was a public gathering, but the details of that case are yet to be clear.

Thanks for the information.

By the way, I also carry a folding knife clipped to the INSIDE of my front pocket (i.e. just the knife's pocket clip shows when carrying). The blade is about 3.75 inches.

Question: Is it okay to carry this knife clipped to the inside of my pocket while I visit Atlanta?

:) :)

Thanks.

According to packing.org

A Georgia Firearms License holder (and those from reciprocal states) can conceal or open carry a "pistol, revolver, or concealable firearm." The license does not include knife carry.

It appears that open carry of a knife is legal. I have seen that (knives in cases on belts).

I carry a pocket knife from time to time and don't think much of it. Doubt you would have much trouble as long as you didn't have it in a prohibited place and you wern't carrying a switchblade.

I'm sorry! :D

From a GA Cop,

If you are going to ATL, expect to encounter more of those stupid little signs “No Weapons Allowed”.

Most of the state will give you no hassle but you might want to take some documentation supporting the CCW reciprocity. I personally know cops who call me all the time asking questions about our own CCW let alone another states.

If you happen to encounter one of those cops, I apologize on behalf of all us hardworking cops in GA who enjoy serving the good people of this state.

Operation “Click –it-or-Ticket” (Operation-pick-it-and-flick-it as I jokingly call it) is in full swing so wear your seat belt.

Welcome to Gaw--ja

SC isn't horrible but as far as I read the law it is still pretty restrictive, and to carry in a hospital or doctors office you are supposed to have their expressed permission. What the heck am I supposed to do peek my head in the door and say "Hey yall mind if I bring a gun in here?" It is redicules. At least to be binding the sign has to have some requirments which I have yet to see in any of the posted signs. Carry and if asked to leave, leave. No reason to make it illegal to carry certian places.

Please go visit www.georgiapacking.org before your visit.

This web site is a wealth of information on the subject. Signs have no legal effect in Georgia. There are places off limits about which you never dreamed, however, mostly left over from the 1800s and Jim Crow, never intended to be enforced against whites, but a legacy with which we are still saddled today.

Georgia has more places off limits than any state in the nation that actually issues a firearms license for carry. Many of these places are places you will want to visit on vacation (mass transit -including the parking lots and bus stops, state parks, historic sites, sporting events, wildlife management areas). The mass transit stuff is a felony IIRC, not 100% sure I remember that right (could be a misdemeanor).

The restaurants exclusion is broader than just those restaurants with a bar. Any place that sells alcohol for consumption on the premises is off limits. That means that if you are not dining in McDonalds or Dennys, your gun is illegal!

By the way, no need to keep it concealed as in Florida, if that matters to you.

Pay a visit to georgiapacking (no real relation to the other site that was mentioned in an earlier post but is always down).

Thanks for the information.

Based on the info so far, I'm still pondering whether or not it's worth it to CCW while I visit Georgia.
