Here is Nelsons reply to my e-mail to him

Thank you for contacting me about policy proposals that seek to reduce gun violence in the wake of the tragedy in Newtown.

I am a hunter and have always owned guns. I support the Second Amendment. But when assault rifles are used to kill children, it's time for America to act.

Solutions for reducing gun violence must address many areas, from protecting law enforcement and keeping weapons out of the hands of criminals, to school safety, access to mental health services, and confronting a culture that sometimes glorifies violence.

I support reinstating the assault weapons ban and restoring the 10-round limit for ammunition magazines. And, I support universal background checks so that we can know if person buying a weapon has a criminal record.

I appreciate hearing your views on this very important issue, and I will keep them in mind in the days ahead as the Senate debates gun control issues. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future.

Sincerely,
Bill Nelson

And my reply back to him after receiving it

Dear Mr. Nelson,

Thank you for response. While I agree that the tragedy in Newtown was horrendous I do not think a ban would resolve the issues leading up to and including this tragedy. Therefore I regret to inform you that I will NOT be voting for you in your next re-election bid as I have done in the past. It is clear to me that you are not in step with what the Second Amendment was intended to be. I will work tirelessly to do whatever I can to make sure you are not re-elected for another term when the time comes. You are not a friend of the Constitution therefore not a friend to me.

Sincerely

I suggest we all in Florida to the same now that we know his position.

"I support the second amendment, but"
"No, you don't, shut up and don't take my rights."

I just wrote him a letter, asking him to side with sanity on this and not blame guns for the actions of people, I'll let you know what comes back.

That's dissappointing. As a Floridian I expect him to vote the will of the people. Florida is a very pro gun state. The poll on senator Nelson's web site asking whether we support a AWB showed 96% against, which is what I would expect. Time to vote him out!

As pointless as it might have been to do so, I'd have pointed out that an 'assault rifle' was not used in Sandy Hook, but it would have been ignored.

I sent three letters to Nelson, and have not received a response, though I now know what his position is (thanks for posting).

I will write his office now and let him know what I think, unfortunately he was just re-elected and is in office until 2019. I will certainly push the point that he listen to his constituents, and the poll on his website, when making decisions such as this, as his stance does not match the majority of those in Florida.

I also wrote him and received the same canned response.

I replied back asking him to reconsider. If he votes to limit magazines or any other such nonsense, I advised him that he will have permanently lost my vote and that I would campaign against him.

Bill nelson has been failing us for years. Nothing new going on here.

He got elected saying he was a blue dog, but he's not even close. He has the audacity to post pics of him pretending to be a real astronaut on his website, while he failed at holding on to the space program. He insults real astronauts who went through years of training. Where he weasled his way into a free space tourist ride as a politician on our dime. Reminds me of the bush flight suit mission accomplished routine.

He's basically one of reids whipping boys. He'll always vote what his party tells him too. You can take that to the bank.

You can tell I am not a fan of bills.

I also failed to receive a response. I pointed out his own poll and how it reflected views opposing his. I don't perceive a full ban, but something will come out of the proposals and I won't like them. Time for Adam Putnam to take over on his way to the WH.

I received the exact same response from Nelson that gilfo did.

I then sent him a more strongly worded snail-mail letter.

And I sent him another, fairly short, email in which I urged him to vote no on the new anti-gun legislation being proposed, and closed with this paragraph:

"Singling out Americans, stopping those who want to exercise their Second Amendment rights from doing so, and all the other solutions in search of non-existent problems must be stopped. Not because of politics, but to protect the founding document of our nation, the Constitution."

I wonder if he'll recognize the verbiage from his statement on voting, which he made to the Senate Judiciary Committee a month ago:

"Singling out Americans, stopping those who want to vote from going to the polls, and all the other solutions in search of non-existent problems must be stopped. Not because of politics, but to protect the founding document of our nation, the Constitution."

Sen. Bill Nelson

Got the same reply back. He won't duck his anti 2nd Amendment views for probably another 5 years (then its reelection time).

Wonder how hard it is to recall a U.S. Senator?

I too got the same response from him. At least we got Rubio on our side. Also Steve southerland in the us house of reps is a pro gun guy.
