Today is the two-month anniversary of the day I handed in my application for my NYS CCW. I have also acquired a Florida CWP application, and while filling it out, a fun thought occured to me.

As some of you know, NYS has 6 months to issue the permit, and by all accounts, they generally use every day of it. Florida, on the other hand, has a 90-day limit. I thought it would be fun to wait a month and then send in my Florida application 90 days before New York's 6-month limit runs out, and let the two states race to see which permit arrives in the mail first.

Feel free to chime in with which state you feel will win the race, and by how much. Betting is of course totally acceptable, feel free to post your odds and point spreads. As organizer of this event, I expect a small cut of the profits from the bookies

Dates:
05/10/2006 (TUE) - Turned in NYS app
11/10/2006 (FRI) - NYS Deadline to deliver CCW
08/12/2006 (SAT) - 90 days before NYS Deadline
08/10/2006 (THU) - Will mail FL app to FL, should arrive on 8/12

08/12 being a Saturday, Florida may have a little bit of a disadvantage in that they may not do anything on it until Monday. However, they did recieve it on Saturday, and I think the 90 days should start on the day they recieve it, it's not my fault if they are not open on Saturday :)

My own prediction is I give Florida 2/1 that they beat NY by 10 days. Any takers?

6-mo limit

i believe you are mistaken about the NY and the 6 mo thing my dad is a buffalo cop and it took him almost eight and my mother nine months, this was abut 2 years ago

NY VS FLORIDA CCW RACE

What is your PRIMARY state of residence. I got my FL CCW in 60 Days.
Kel-Tec P-11
Bersa Thunder .380
H&R 929 .22 LR 9 Shot Revolver

NY depends entirely on the county. Took me all of 11 days from the date of turning my last reference in and getting my unrestricted permit in the mail.

I live in NY, Cayuga County. Had to go through the City of Auburn police department because I live within the city limits.

with the new computerized system you're looking at about a month turn around time, on average, they actually have the results from the FBI background check in 24 hours, the longest time is your references filling out their paperwork and returning it, also waiting on the judge to sign off on it.

I got mine in onondaga county, took 4 months, but thats because two of my references flaked out on me and I had to find new ones, judge sat on the paperwork for about a week. could have been vacactioning for all I know.

oh yeah, and they were really helpful too, calling me when my references turned in their papers and when I needed to find new references, as well as when the judge signed off on it.

I'd like to think that they are that helpful with everyone, but it might have been that I'm military and all of my references were military and civilian LEOs as well, two city cops and a sherriff, and the one who wasn't a LEO is an officer.

plus the only fees I had to pay were the 99 dollar FBI check and 3 bucks to add a pistol and change address.

hey cny

Which end of Auburn are you in? I grew up in the not so great west end in the mid 70s thru the late 80s.

My Florida CWP to 27 days from the time I mailed it to the time I got it. But they had a big back log when I sent mine in so they did not start to process it until the 22 day after I sent it in. But I live in Florida.

My experience in Cayuga County

I got my CCW permit yesterday after a wait of about 13 weeks (I live in Auburn and went through APD at the end of May). I don't know what your experience was in the end, but I'm sure Florida was probably quicker.

Oh, and for the record I had lived in the county for barely six months when I applied, but there was nothing on application about that at all. After looking at a variety of websites for counties around NY, I've seen a range of residence requirements from no time at all (Cayuga) to two years (Clinton County).
