With Georgia having no reciprocity with my home state of Ohio, which non-resident CCW permit would be better to get - Florida or Virginia? I've researched both to an extent. Has anyone had any problems applying for either? I have the application paperwork for Florida and expect to get the permit within 90 days. what is the length of time one has to wait for the Commonwealth of Virginia to issue theirs?

Ohio is my main concern. My parents still live there. I can carry in any all Southern states except South Carolina which is not much of a concern. Both Florida and Virginia issue non-resident CCWs and both have reciprocity with Ohio.

Just be sure to check the reciprocity law. I just found out I can't carry in CO with my non-res FL permit, being a resident of VA. You have to be a resident of the issuing state.

It looks like Florida is the way to go. Just out of curiousity, can anyone tell how long the application process in Virginia takes?

Took me 60 days dor-to-door.

I don't know why glockman19 took so long. I believe the statute for Virginia is it must be completed in 30 days.

Now, this is for resident permits, I am not certain on non-resident permits.

Any thoughts about Florida versus Pennsylvania?

I'm trapped in the Criminal Free Fire Zone of Illinois, but I share a legal residence with my Dad in Panama City Beach FLA. There are a few places here (Illinois) that teach the required classes for a FL permit.

At the same time, I came across an application online for Centre County Pennsylvania that's a "fill it out, mail it in with a check" form".

I'm interested in finding the best option so I have the right to carry when we travel on vacation.

DonP, Florida honors a PA LTCF, if you are a resident of PA. Since you are a resident of IL, you should go for a Florida CWL...
